GM docs for the 1969 2+2 I'm chasing


Thought I'd pass along the GM docs on the 427/390 2+2 Four Speed Convertible that I'm chasing.  Well equipped from a performance standpoint!  It's also the only car I've found with the F41 option, but I just might be forgetting...

In terms of "luxury", there's nothing - AM radio and no AC, just power windows.  But it's got all the right go-fast options from the 427 to the four speed to posi to F41 and disc brakes with rally wheels.  So clearly ordered with that in mind!

Yes , that is a rare one, and its a  4 spd convertible . Probably one of a handful 4 spd convertibles  with a BB

I noticed the newer documentation is now very generous when stating how many models were produced . I believe they now only mention " models " without reference to powertrain .

Morley's GM doc's from years ago stated there were only 12 built with 427/390 4 spd combo's

Probably one of a handful 4 spd convertibles with a BB

The guy thinks it's one of one, and he knows that he's never -documented- another, and that there can be at most 3.  But whether it's 1, 2, or 3 he doesn't know yet.  It costs a minimum of $320 to have them start looking, and it's unbounded, so not something I was going to fund just yet.

Morley's letter doesn't say 427/390, just 427. We believe it to be 9 L36, 2 LS1, and 1 L66. No breakdown yet on convertible vs hardtop, as they're the same model.

There are more Hemi 'Cuda convertibles (and those are worth a little bit more!).  Rarity isn't everything, but if you're a 69 Fullsize nut like me, it helps.

Very cool, and a fairly late built car.   Were there any mid-year changes to the 69's?  (70 B body Cdn Pontiac's had a few, not sure about 69's).

Looks like the car was built in April and the dealership had it till September. Fun summer to be the dealer's kid I imagine! I don't know of any midyear changes, though I've heard late 69s didn't get the chrome dash vents, they got black like 1970. But I do not know for sure.

 Convertibles and Hardtops are not the same model. The total on your Doc is for 2+2 Convertible. Not total 2+2. There were 1943 Hardtop 2+2's according to the thread here on production numbers.

There's a mix of "all 2+2" and "2+2 convertible" but all of the numbers I quoted are, like you said, 2+2 totals.  They don't break it out per sub-model other than top line production numbers.  Everything else appears to be just 2+2, because they don't break the options out by submodel, just by 3-digit model.  That's why this car is in the same bucket as the Morley Brown and DWach hardtop cars.

He confused me because he kept talking about "768867" which is actually "768 with 867" or "2+2 with red vinyl buckets" but I thought he'd found 76867 which is the convertible. But alas, no. That's when I figured out that they refer to models by *three* digits, not 5.

My goal is to figure out whether it's a 1-of-1 car (four speed, convertible, L36, 2+2).  So that's per-sub-model, and hence the problem.  

I know it's one of 12 overall 2+2s with 427 manuals.  It's one of 9 with the L36 (that's new data I think).  But is it one of one convertible?  That's the rub.

I see now how you got confused with the numbers. 76867 = 2+2 convertible. And 867 is red trim. But the 867 is on the body tag following TR (trim). Just a coincidence the model ends with same three digits. By the way very cool car.

So a 2 plus 2 without ZJ7 optional wheels.....would come with 15" steelies and full wheel discs.....if it had disc brakes?

If it had disc brakes , then yes,  15" steels . With full covers or possibly dog dish caps.

I have the 15"steels on my 69 Biscayne  ( YZ stamped)
