Selkirk Manitoba Junkyard - Boskos

I stopped there back in November

i first found this yard back in the mid 1980s

I stop by every 5 years - the owner is now 81 and I am thinking the yard will be cleaned up one of these years

I have added 4 pictures on this site but am seeing how Photobucket works for sharing pictures

Click on this link ( or maybe you have to cut and paste it into your browser)

Let me know how or if it works

Your link works but your file sizes must be quite large as it was very slow.  Thanks for posting though.

Winter 81-82, my 67 Grande Parisienne wagon was a victim of hit and run. (Driver was caught a few hours later because his front plate fell off and was lying under my car when he fled!) I needed a drivers rear door and was having trouble locating one. A friend had seen a wagon sell at our government insurance auction and thankfully in those days "freedom of information" was not a term we knew. The auction people told me who had bought the wagon, Bosko's Auto Wrecking. That was my first trip there and I've been back but not for a long time. Neat place to go, I guess it's time again, maybe in the spring.

Looks like lots of good stuff there!

If you (or anyone) ever goes there, I would REALLY like the taillight housings off that 1956 Pontiac if in fact they are not pitted, as it appears in the photos (I don't care that the lenses are missing, I have plenty of lenses - and I do not need the backup light delete plates). Happy to pay any reasonable amount (not $200, eh?) + shipping to USA.

It is a neat place, most stuff is pretty rough though. Not everything is for sale. My 59 came from there, took a year for him to finally say yes. It was just over from the 60 with the tree growing out of the engine compartment, and yes trees need to be removed to get it out as well, and that was 18 years ago.

I think it was 1985 when I first stopped in this yard

I don't know if other people remember there being a couple of 59-60 chev convertibles being there plus a 59-60 El Camino

there also was a very stripped 58 Impala convert buried in the bush plus there was a 55 Chev 2 door hardtop in the back field

The next time i stopped by in the early 2000s that stuff was all gone

Anyway I have heard from others that he is tough to buy cars from- his standard answer over the years was that he was thinking of fixing them up .  I have found his prices on parts not dirt cheap but not bad

Spring might be the best time to visit the yard - i was surprised how much the bush is swallowing a lot of stuff (even in the late fall) since I was last there 5 years ago

The moment he passes away or gets sick a crusher from the Gerdau scrap mill will be there - the municipality has been after him for years.  They want to attract gentry from the city to build country estates out there.

Yes he was kinda partial to 59 - 60 Chevys. He had a couple 60 Belair 2dr Ht, and a 59 Elcamino as well as the 59 2dr HT at that time.

Here is what my 59 looked like back them, spring 98

The new landowners will have to remediate the soil for the "gentry"? (probably not)

I remember popping in there when i was 10 or 12, so early 1980's, it wasn't too far from home...he wouldn't sell anything 1959!! Good on you Dan to pry one away!

Dan do you remember Gobert's white '59 convertible from the 80's? He had Gobert on the custom plate, lived on the perimeter between #8 and 7 ... I lost track of that car, don't know if it's still in that family or long gone... I went to West St. Paul with his son Alan.

Took my girl friend (now wife) and my father a year to get it from him. I had been asking for a couple years always same answer, NO! I couldn't find one anywhere, she decided I was getting that one, They never said a thing until it showed up on the trailer.

I didn't grow up here, I moved to Stony in 93, so that 1 I don't know.

Cool that you got the car...my mom liked 59s and never owned one! Gobert nurseries, I think the farm/barn still bears the name on the perimeter... he owned a nice 59 impala convertible, triple white...not sure how much he drove it, but I'd see it out a few times each summer as a kid... who knows, maybe it's parked there!

Dan, thank you for saving that beautiful 1959 Chevrolet Impala from a very nasty end.

just out of curiosity what is the 1940s(?) car backed up to the 59 in the picture from August of the year you bought it.?

That is a 39 Cadillac, customer's car. We changed out the flat head for a 500 Caddy and TH400. Rest of the car remained perfectly stock.
Can't remember what was wrong with the flat head v8, but this was cheaper and made the car much more fun to drive.

At the moment 283 from my 65.
I'll add your name to the list Jim. There are a few in front of you. Though I can't see getting rid of it. It has the look but up close still needs lots. A fun beater 60's style mild custom.

Nothing wrong with a 283 even in a heavy one! Luv'em, just taking it mild in my 57, didn't want to be tooo aggressive on line. Blew away a 55 bb F#$d against my buddy..boy he was pi$$ed! Glad I made the list.wink
