Quarter panel seal

Hi guys. Is there supposed to be a rubber seal that goes between the quarter panel and quarter panel exstension?

Are you referring to the void space below the taillights? I do believe there was a factory rubber gasket installed using staples.

Looked at his 2 postings.biggrin and thought he was talking about piping with a bead, not as in gasket. Have seen both, but piping looks rediculous. Think hes talking from 1/4 to tail light?

Yeah I am referring to the space between where the qaurter panel exstension(I believe this is what it's called. It's the part the taillight mounts in and attaches to the back of the quarter) meets the quarter panel. Wondering if there is supposed to be a gasket or a piping type seal in there. It looks like it's a no ?

yes, should be a gasket there.. in between .

i also use Duct seal on the bolts ,,then put the nut on.. keeps that sealed up nice , so no water gets in.

look up the gasket for a 67 chevelle .. you will see what you should  have ..

Ok I found them. It looks like you can get a flat rubber gasket or a round piping type seal. What one do you guys think is best. I saw in an earlier post it was said the piping ones do not look good.

i think you will be happier with the flat gasket type ..

it just gives you a little cushion to adjust / tighten the nuts to get a flush fit with 1/4  and extensions.

Just for the record, the GM drawing for the 1/4 extension shows nothing between the extension and the 1/4 panel.
