Some stuff I learned about 1969s...

Some rough notes while going through some factory documentation I was lucky enough to receive:

  • Option G66, "Air Booster Rear Shock Equipment", gave you a shraeder valve at the back license plate where you could air up your shocks
  • The 327 was still used for export models (right hand drive)
  • There is -supposed- to be a displacement sticker (they show 396) over the 1-Team Tonawanda engine sticker on big blocks
  • The hood light DOES move side to side.  Driver side for small block, passenger side for big block and inline 6
  • The oil change sticker follows the light (if equipped) and the sticker should be upside down for easier reading
  • For the european market option T94 cut amber signal lights into the rear metal bumper
  • There is support for 3 speakers, 2 in the rear and one in the front, depending on the combination of stereo tape player and FM stereo that you had
  • Speakers are shown with a backing box on the trunk side, but I've never seen that
  • Per North, all but the GP had speaker grilles - the GP had a mesh style package shelf instead
  • A rear power antenna is listed in the front RPO list but not in the detailed option instructions, so may not have existed
  • A rear manual antenna (like my 2+2 now has) is detailed under option U73

There's a master RPO list up front that doesn't necessarily mean they made it, but at least they had a code for it.  It lists electric rear window defog, for example, which I think was Grand Prix only that year, if anywhere.  But there are option codes like "U30 - Aux Gauge Panel" that I'm not sure what to make of.

Anyway, that's just from my first look, I'm sure others will have more input!

Dave

I'd like to see a rear bumper with the T94 option.

I searched but couldn't find ANY example of european export cars of that vintage with amber rear signals, let alone 1969 Pontiacs. I bet they're ugly though, based on the drawing!

The 69 2+2 I grabbed for the chassis had the G66, "Air Booster Rear Shock Equipment". The shraeder valve was still there, and bits & pieces of the steel lines to the shocks, but the air shocks were long gone. There were a couple brackets that I suspect held the transition from steel to flexible lines. I think I've got those brackets somewhere.

Re the backing box in the truck for the rear speakers, my 70's have that. There's a small bracket hanging below the speaker that extends through the middle of the backing box so it can be attached. On your 69's, is that bracket present?

I do recall a speaker box as noted, but it was in my 69 Skylark Custom I built back in 81/82.

Dave, really appreciate all the historical information you have been providing.
