Classic 1964 Parisienne survior, Burlington, ON $15,000

Nice,

have we seen this one before ?

64.jpg

This car is in its original condition and has never been winter driven.
The frame
and undercarriage have no rust.
This is what is known as a survivor and is probably the last one out there that still runs as good as the day it was built.
I drive it a lot in the summer and last year whent on a long road trip with no worries. It has an inline6 230 engine and 2speed powerglide transmission that bolth work like new. The engin burns no oil.
I will ecept serious inquires only. Not test drives unless you are buying. This is a 53 year old car that has never been restored and still is being driven regularly. I do regularly routine maintenance and inspection before the good weather driving season starts and nothing more that an oil change and chassis lube is all that's ever needed.
I also do a thorough inspection of the undercarriage parking brake cables brake lines and fuel lines.
The fuel tank and lines have been replaced and every thing under there is in like new condition

Wow!

The sixes have surprising bottom-end torque for what they are. P/S, P/B, auto. Is he saying that it is original paint?

I met the guy once at my local carquest, and the thing is as clean as described. Total time capsule.

Wow, that is impressive.

If it really is that nice, the price likely isn't outrageous.

Good point, I missed that.

I did notice that it looks like a bunch of underhood stuff has been redone but I never caught the wrong firewall colour.

Very good looking car and the 6 cylinder wouldn't bother me a bit.
However, I'm always amazed how people seem to think they have the last one left just because they haven't seen another one in their neighbourhood.

Not to mention most of the hood bumpers in the same picture are covered in white paint.  Perhaps a nice car but not as original as they think

rad cap is offset on rad,not in middle of the rad.......

is that a 6 cylinder thing or not the original rad?

When did the PCV valve first appear in the valve cover of 6 cylinder cars? It was later than 64 for V8s.

Canadian flags everywhere. Is one of them covering the holes where the dealer nameplate attached?

What a patriotic guy with all those Canuk flags everywhere. Some good questions have been brought up here. Did the 230 inline six in 1964 have a PCV valve in the valve cover, i thought that was a bit latter. The rad cap location is another good question. Let the detective work begin gentlemen.

What constitutes a survivor car?

This one appears to have been repainted, the engine has aftermarket corrugated rad houses and fresh paint. I guess I wouldn't call it a survivor....

Agreed.  I consider a survivor to be untouched.  This is a nice car by the looks of things but I wouldnt call it a survivor either.

I'm guessing a survivor is anything that is still on the road.

From what I've heard, the term started from the Corvette guys (going from memory - I could be wrong).  Here is a quote from another forum which, I believe, properly defines the term:

The NCRS has an award classification for "survivors" called "Bowtie" for cars that are substantially original ...with the same chrome, paint, upholstery, engine, etc that came from the factory, never having been restored (repainted, rechromed, etc), but only "maintained". Here is their description:

'The judged section requires an 80 to 85% pass with the following standard "Does the item, part, fabric, plating or coating appear to actually be that which was specifically installed or applied on this car at the time of manufacture". If this is successfully passed the vote with the following standard "Does the area judged display significant educational and historical value which should be preserved in its present condition" is taken. Passing both sections in all four areas earns the NCRS - Chevrolet Bowtie award. As of end of the 2007 season, only 190 Corvettes have received this award.'

Any given Corvette can only be considered for the Bowtie award once (because it can never get any more "original" than it is... except by exchanging parts with another car, but in the first judging it was already documented as NOT being original).

I usually avoid the term survivor because people are so anal about these things. I tell people who ask that my car was painted in 1989 but not restored as it still has original interior, wheels, trunk items, exterior panels and fenders, emblems, bumpers, windows, transmission, axle and differential etc...

Its also kinda hard hiding the fact  that the original engine a perfectly running small block still in my possession gave way to a BBC.

I like Ted's idea though..."Its still on the Road"

I think there are as many definitions for survivor as there are people who have opinions about it.  I was just trying to offer what is considered the "official" definition (at least where it started, to the best of my knowledge).

For me, as long as the car is mostly original I consider it a "survivor", in as much as the term is supposed to signify something special.  If you want to call any old car that hasn't been crushed up into a little cube a survivor, then that's fine as well.

I think the stickiness for the term usually comes from people trying to use it as a selling feature for their old car, just like "rare", "barn find", "only XX left", etc.  The range becomes so broad that basically anybody says anything in order to help sell their car, and lookers become justifiably cynical over the use of such terms as they no longer indicate anything special about anything.  In other words, "survivor" becomes the modern-day equivalent of "only driven by an old lady to church on Sundays", etc.

Personally, I try to shy away from such commonly used descriptors and tend to default to the obvious, such as "nice car" etc.  It's a lot safer and just as meaningful.

Just my 2¢, nothing more.

Mine is a "barn find" "survivor" that needs a repairs ... so it won't be either in the future.
