This car is itching for blackwall tires, silver steelies and button caps.

They used a bunch of those things in the 1973 Bond film, "Live and Let Die".

If it is a factory 454 car it should carry a Y as the 5th character in the v.i.n. It would also carry 454 numerals low on the front fenders above the side marker lights.

Is that an Old Mill dealer sticker on the trunk lid?

Old Mill was a Pontiac/Buick dealership but they might have sold the car used as a trade in.

I think that's a 73, and it should have the 454 emblem for sure!

Sharp cruiser.  Would definitely eat up those highway miles in a hurry!

I suspect this car likely has something along the line of 2.56 or 2.73 gears. Long legs with those gears but not likely enough aerodynamics to take full advantage of them.

Totally different experience.  Lots of modern cars would eat your Lemans alive, but that's not why you choose to drive it, right?

Similarly, there is no Camry in existence that will deliver the kind of experience that the Impala will.  Apples and oranges.

You can't find a modern car that will make those miles of highway float under effortlessly like a big ol' boat like that.  The new cars are fine, they handle and brake much better than the cars of 40+ years ago, but most of them don't start making power till 4 or 5 grand - especially with the onslaught of small displacement turbo engines combined with CVT transmissions that have become de rigueur these days.  Like Carl said - the big block delivers torque, low down and lots of it.  Not to mention that you can feel a dime if you drive over one in modern suspension/chassis, something you will not experience in the floatamatic highway barge Impala.

Besides, I'm sure it wouldn't be too much trouble to wake up that 454 a little, don't you think? wink

Why are we talking about Camrys anyhow?  It's making me a little queasy... biggrin

Floatamatic! I love that. It is an accurate description of those 70's full size cars. Zero handling but maximum comfort.

4500 lbs, I was talking to a guy who owns a new V8 Challenger, it weighs about the same, I think he said 4400. But you get a lot more car in 1973. The new Camaro weighs a lot too, I think my Parisienne weighs less than a Camaro or the Challenger.

A Camry is not a real car BTW. The 73 blows the doors off it in front seat space, rear seat space, and trunk space. Load them both full and it may be cheaper per mile per lb of cargo, to drive the 73?

Not to mention it looks better than any jelly bean car? How can you compare a boat to a jelly bean?
