Our 1950 did not come with a by pass filter, it was an option according to my shop manual. However, the previous owner of our car installed a by pass filter. The colour of the filter canister was Yellow and the insert was red.

I've seen them in every color of the rainbow as they were an option from the factory or available as an aftermarket add on.So I've seen red,orange and yellow ones on ebay.My factory origin al on the 54 is semi gloss black,the one one my 49 is silver.
