sounds like everything you'd need to do a conversion.

I call that a bargain. Somebody grab that!

The only thing is, that looks like a bench seat handle. I don't think it's right for that console.

Looks like there are (2) handles?

The other one looks like a Hurst Super Shifter but that won't fit in the console.

IMG_2651.JPGI agree. This is a good deal. Someone has replaced the original insert with the engine turned decal or the actual engine turned aluminum which is readily available for the '64 Chevy SS. The original CS insert was plain aluminum. Carl is right about the shifters. Neither is correct for this console. As can be seen in my picture, the original shifter is straight. This console would make a great addition to any '64.

Whoops, I just noticed he has no shift rods for it! Need to allow a couple of hundred to buy those if I'm correct. I somehow thought they were on there when I first looked at it.

The ad says that he has "linkages and peddles (pedals) to go with it." I wonder if linkages means shift rods?

Another one of those ads where it would be nice if he showed everything he is actually selling.

Question:

If I was to remove my floor shift Powerglide from my 63 Parisienne and convert to the 4 speed Muncie from this 64 CS,

would the transmission be a direct exchange, or would there be issues  with mounts or drive shaft length ?

What other parts would I need to complete the change, besides bell housing, clutch, petals and linkage?

You need to shorten and balance the front drive shaft, easy to do via a heavy truck shop. 63 and 64 Chevy and Cdn Pontiac pedals interchange, along with z bar, clutch rod through firewall.

I think you could use any xframe zbar and lower clutch rods, as long as they match each other. But you do need the 63 or 64 clutch rod through the firewall. You can cut a hole in the PG rubber firewall gasket for the clutch rod to go through.

No issue with mounts or driveshaft angles. There is a metal mounting plate that fits on top of the floorpan that the shifter bolts to, available aftermarket (Show Cars has them). I've not done a bucket seat console car, but I've done a 59, 62, and 63, 283 and 409.

63 was the first year for a 153 tooth flywheel, if you use a closed aluminum bell, you use that and it would work with your starter, if you currently run a small block. Don't buy a 63 muncie, they have a different/smaller front bearing retainer, 63 only, and then you need a 63 only bell housing. Hard to find and expensive.

Its not a hard switch to make.

Feel free to contact me, maybe start a post in the 63 forum when you proceed? That Southwest article was very complete and accurate. I used a 63 6 cylinder setup for the zbar and rods connected to it in my 62, with 62 pedals and rod through the wall. My Parisienne came with a 63 parts car with the pedals and zbar frame bracket, it was a 3 on the tree car.

Pretty sure the console is from a 64 full size Chev. SS 4sp. Cause of the turning design.

Is there supposed to be an SS emblem on the Chevy console? Or does he have it covered by that tag?

'64 SS Console 4 speedd.jpg64 SS insert.jpgAs explained above, the engine turned aluminum design is available as a stick on decal or as a curved piece of engine turned aluminum for the '64 SS. When I repainted my '64 CS console, I ordered the engine turned aluminum from Ecklers. The '64 SS does have an SS emblem, but it was never located on this part of the console. The SS emblem located on the lid of the console. I suspect that this is a '64 Custom Sport console and that the seller purchased either the decal or the aluminum piece just as I did. Either way, it looks great even though the original portion of this console would have been plain, not engine turned. Besides, this part of the console looks too perfect to be original even if it were from a '64 SS. Just my hypothesis.
