1967 Acadian Canso Sport Deluxe for sale on ebay - not mine

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-Pontiac-Acadian-Canso-Sport-Deluxe/162634643324?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

A buddy from Milwaukee spotted this.  He sent me the link, asking if this was a clone or real.   I don't know my Acadian's, so someone here may be able to comment.    The listing indicates the original engine was a 283, would a real SD have been born with a 283?

Are the 4 side louvers correct?   I would have thought 5 louvers.

I'm no 67 expert but yes, in 67 and SD could be a 6, a 283 2 barrel or a 327/275.

It appears to be a genuine Acadian 4 speed console which is rare to say the least.

4 louvers is right from what I've seen.

Typical restorers mistakes, especially from US shops, the black firewall and the white square posi sticker instead of the rectangular yellow one.

Nice looking car.

The ad says 283 and upgraded to L79, I don't think the 283 would take a 4" bore. 4 louvers are correct, missing SD emblem on the glove box, blue dot upper tail light lenses are wrong and the traction bars don't do it any justice. Very nice car otherwise. Just my 2 cents.

This car belonged to a former member from Louisville. I talked to him about it a few years ago, I think it was originally from Bc or Alberta. He also had a 67 SD that may have been Ken Leblanks originally.

I was wondering if this was the same car. I think his name is Jerry. I spoke to him a number of years back. Yes, he also owned that gorgeous blue 67 Beaumont SD396.

I think he bought the Acadian out of Edmonton.

Yes, his name is Jerry.  On steve's nova site he goes by Jerhra.  He told me a couple weeks ago he had a car for sale in Louisville.  He also said he had quite a few Acadian parts to sell.  He wanted to buy some 66-67 Nova parts as he said he had a 66 Nova that would be his next project.  I have no doubt this Acadian is a high quality build.

I think he also owns the only known 67 Nova RHD station wagon. Seems to me he bought it out of Illinois a while back.

In mid 1964 model year, Chevrolet added the 283 to the Chevy Nova SS option list.  The block used in manual trans cars needed to have a recessed oil filter and a boss for the clutch cross shaft mount.  It is my understanding they could get away with a non recessed filter in the automatic trans cars.

Apparently, the 327, recessed filter block was already available so, the decision was made to use the 327 block but bore it as a 283 until 1965 model year when a 283, recessed filter block was available for manual trans cars.

Several years ago, I bought a 1963 Nova SS in California and shipped it back to Michigan.  My idea was to build it as a 327, 4 spd car using a complete drivetrain that had been removed from a 1964 Nova SS, 283, 4spd car.  Upon receiving these parts I started researching the block and after contacting several guys more knowledgeable than I, it became apparent this block was in fact used as a 327 and was safe to be bored .125" over the 283 bore.  I ended up selling the car to the owner of a machine shop who confirmed to me the block could be over bored by .125"  Neither he or I wanted to spoil the OEM configuration of this rare block.  He chose not to buy the 1964 drivetrain and restored the car using the original 194 6 cylinder.

Later, I was contacted by the owner of a 1964 Nova SS who was Canadian and lived in Ontario.  He was very aware of the block uniqueness and paid me well for the complete 4 spd drivetrain for his restoration.

This block had the casting # 3790721, it is listed as a 327 block in "Chevrolet by the numbers" 65-69, the footnote states, This was also used as the primary block for the 1964 Chevy II 283.

This is one example of a 283 Chevy II, Nova motor that could in fact be bored to 4.00" for 327 displacement.  There is no indication this block was used in 1967.

I used one of the 721 283 blocks in my 65 Acadian. It came from a 64 Nova, I think it was a December casting.

I took it to a machine shop, had it sonic tested and bored to 4". When I dropped it off at the machine shop, the guy who helped me unload and who wrote up the work order was likely mid 60's. He looked at me and said "WHERE did you find one of these???!!!" I didn't tell him I had 3. One from California, one from North Carolina and one from Texas.

It all worked out great and I ended up with an affordable, proper X body 327 engine.

Shortly after I first meant Tony and his Dad, the 3 of us traveled to Oshawa together for Auto Fest when it was still located at GM Headquarters.  I had my Canadian Nova 62 Convertible, his Dad had his 62 Acadian Beaumont Convertible and Tony had a wagon with a 350 V-8, can't remember the exact year and model except it was originally a 6 cyl car.

He really surprised me.  I believe he had the opportunity to take over his Dad's Transmission Shop but chose not to and Dad closed it up and sold the property and several buildings.  Tony's cars were stored there, so he sold everything he had lots of parts and several cars, including a 67 2+2, 6 cylinder and the RHD 67 wagon.  Then his Dad sold his cars including a 62 Acadian Beaumont Convertible, pale yellow, white top with a fawn? interior.

When Tony first decided he was not healthy enough to work in his father's business, he bought a new truck and trailer and started hauling vehicles, coast to coast.  He hauled a lot of expensive race and exotic cars.  I think it was the following year that he was hit hard in an accident, totaling the trailer, not sure about the truck.  He was hospitalized and Tony was not a healthy person to begin with.  He was seeing Doctor's and seeking treatment for several aliments that later included a surgery.  I believe his problem was internal, thyroid or something like that.

After everything was sold and bills were paid (he told me one time he was selling cars to pay medical bills), he was healthy and found work as a school bus driver.  He meant a young teacher during that time and they married.  Her passion was horses so they bought some property and a house in the country and last I heard they had horses, he was healthy and happy.

He called me when he started selling cars and I bought two rust free, California 63-64 Nova wagons, one a 3 seater and a 62 Acadian 4 door parts car from Arizona.

A real car nut and one hell of a nice guy to boot!

Gives the light a blue tinge. They can be bought and put into any tail light.

I wonder who started the trend in the fifties? It's kind of a weak attempt of customizing.

Back in the early fifties most cars were 6 volt so the tail lights were very dim. The " blue dots " or " cat's eyes " made the tail lights brighter and more noticeable ( besides being oh so cool )
