You think that price is out of line? Car looks pretty decent. My wife's 76 Esprit cost $6,700 in July 1976. It was a nicely optioned car with nice graphics and the Blue Block 350. It always seemed like it had unlimited top end on the highway too.

Your Esprit was one of the coolest ones, Todd, with the 4-speed and all.

It was and it drove so well. . I wish I could have kept it but my son's education was (and is) more important. One more tuition payment to go and I'm free! Look out!

Family is always more important than cars - it's precisely why I don't have an old car at the moment.

Will be interested what you end up with when you are able!  I'll stay tuned in as always!  wink

My "wants" are all over the map. I guess it will depend on what becomes available when the time comes.

It is nice to find a 1-owner car. That one in Whitby has the nice colour scheme, and if I remember correctly it was all Pontiac power for '77, except the Buick V6 took over for the Chevy straight six.

It sounds like the car should have a 350 Pontiac. Also they have added the fender flares from a Trans Am.

Growing up in Ancaster I remember a girl by the name of Ginette, she bought a new 1977 Firebird Formula that looked like the one in the Kijiji link. Her drivetrain of choice was a 400 T/A 4-speed(!). It had the nice suspension so it was everything that a Trans Am was except for the ground effects stuff like fender spats & fender air extractors, plus it had the wood grained dash that I prefer to the machine-turned Trans Am style. She put on a set of Western turbines (not the fine spoke, they looked tough). By 1980 she repainted the black car all black minus the gold Formula appearance stuff. Before those days I used to pass by their house daily on the main drag going to school and I always remember her dad's all-black 1965 Parisienne Custom Sport. It just said V8, like any 283 327 409. I think it was a 283 though.

The Firebirds are surpassing the Camaros in value in this era of 2nd generation F bodys. The Smokey and the Bandit appears to be the reason for this as the TV show had a huge impact with the car loving viewers. One word of caution when considering a purchase of a 77-79 firebird is which 400 engine it came from the factory with. Due to emissions and fuel economy the standard 400 engine block was cast a lightweight block with thinner cylinder walls and weaker block casting webs. The optional 400 W72 was cast the same as the 1970 400 block heavier and stronger. The lighter 400 was ok in stock form but not recommended for a hi performance rebuild. The W72 package used a smaller combustion chamber large valve 350 cylinder head to raise compression to 8.1 from 7.8 a longer duration camshaft, special recurved distributor and a modified rochester 800cfm carb. Other features included a factory oil pan windage tray and chrome valve cover will oil deflectors. Cylinder heads also have factory  push rod guide plates.
