What's different about convertible seats in 1969?


Classic Industries sells interior panel kits AND seat kits that are specific to the convertible (even in my color, red, so I hope they're decent):

What would be different about the convertible seats?  And I feel like I've asked this before, but couldn't find it when I searched!

Rear seat can be a little narrower due to having to make room for the top cylinders. This would also affect the rear side panels and arm rests.

Ah, so it's the BACK seat that's different. That's confusing because it's sold as a "Convertible Bucket Seat Set". But it includes the rears so that makes sense.

I put a set of bucket seat covers from classic on my friends 69 2+2. They are pretty nice, they fit a bit loose (they are a bit larger than the originals-probably designed for typically over stuffing that most auto upholstery shops tend to do). The crests are very easy to snap off the pins so be careful. These ones were parchment and were a bit (like all repros) too pearly but they look beautiful so long as you do the whole interior.  What is nice is that since these chevy seats used stitching rather than heat pleats like many other GM's you don't get that too "flat" look that repro seat covers tend to have.

 

He will order some repro seat foam, I'm sure they will fit snugger with the added padding

I see you forgot to replace the fuel pump gasket when you did the covers!

fifty year old seats should  new foams for a nice fit; especially the fronts. It only makes sense that the existing foams have compressed some what over the years. . Also referbishing the springs. Maybe the original owner was a little on the heavy side ?

The original foam was still beautiful, lower springs were a bit soft but main issue is that those repro seat covers are a bit larger than the originals in width and length so they need extra padding beyond what they had new.

On a 69 GTO I recently did the seat covers for the buckets, left all the original foam (with zero padding added) but replaced the lower spring set only (the backs we left the originals) and they came out beautifully. But they were Legendary, much better quality and they were the same size as the originals that came off.
