RE: i see this ad... REAL-1964 Impala SS 409 4spd Posi NEEDS Complete Restoration

While we are on the subject of 1964 409's......Has anybody seen a  64 Parisienne factory 409?

I'm aware of the 63 Safari....and the 65 Custom Sport in Alberta......but don't recall any 64's...

Just took a quick tour of his site.......The 63 Safari is shown......which I believe is an original 409 build......

The video and pics of the black 409 Custom Sport 'vert are still posted.....

Had a chance to buy that one a few years back.......It was built by Aubrey....as a "tribute" of the ultimate 64 Pontiac.......from a 327 donor car...very COOL......but NOT the real deal...

I realize it was 1964 and standards today are much different but how did this large car with the largest displacement engine and carb set up perform ? Can you compare the acceleration, power and torque to anything we might be familiar with today or even anything in your current fleet of drivers ?

Where is Pete? I thought he'd be all over this thread. I'd like to hear his take on this car.

That looks like fun and the time he posts is great for a big B body, its a lot of gear though which no doubt takes this below 14 seconds. Wonder what a more derivable gear does. It sure sounds great though. Nonetheless the car moves out and obviously has big block torque and unmistakable sound. LOVE IT.

Hard to compare a 1964 anything to today's cars. With a stock tire from 64, a 4000 lb car, and gobs of torque, it would be tricky getting traction. They were good at straight line traction, but with new rubber, better suspension, you can improve them from what was available in 64. They weigh similar to a new Camaro or Challenger and tuned can outrun those cars in a straight line 1/4 mile. Bring your wallet and they can run under 9 seconds and be street legal.

Here's a 61 that raced against Jags in 1961. It was winning the race all the way and lost near the end when a wheel broke. This car was moved to Australia around 61-62 and was moved back to the US in 2017. There is a video of parts of the race, but I can't find it.

Hey Ray, On my 409 it was a 2x4 car, 3.73 gears. I ran it a few times at Detroit Dragway when I lived in Michigan. With borrowed Castler Slicks it ran 13.26. The car was dialed in and was my daily driver. I loved running the U.S. Pontiacs and they had never seen a Chevy engine in a Pontiac. The Flying Saucer on Gratiot was my haunt while in Detroit.

Well that's impressive, "She's real Fine my 409" was right on.

2494.JPGYes the car has a red interior, manual windows, no tilt. Power steering and brakes with metallic linings. White vinyl roof. The reason I have my 64cs today was from fond memories of the 64 car. I sold it in 1967 when I ordered my red 396 Beaumont. I just had to have another 64cs with a 4sp. and I drive my car every day in the summer and selected winter days, amazing cars. My present 64cs.

A 64 Custom Sport HT has got to be one of the BEST looking Canadian Pontiacs of the 60's......and my own personal favorite....

Adding a four speed into the package......is like adding a thick layer of chocolate icing....on a GREAT cake....IMHO

Must have a "brain fart" as I missed this post??? From what I can see "you'd be BURIED " in this financially, & like someone said have another 70 t0 80 grand in it,
tying to restore this car !!!!! My 64 S/S 409 4 speed is in the $50 to $55,000 range for insurance appraisal purposes ! Saw one go through B/J last week, & think it was in the $40,000 range US [driver quality, which mine is too] There was one in similar shape [as this POS] for sale near me awhile ago, he was asking $5,000 and don't know if he ever sold it, but was adamant that being a 409 car, it was worth it!!! No drive train in it either & was a automatic!!! There are certain things to look for on these, as VIN only tells you if a V 8 or 6 banger!! Return fuel line, Ballast resister on firewall, large fuel line all the way to tank are 3 things that will tip you off it's a "REAL" one or cloned correctly!! This one is supposed to be documented but to me "it's too far gone to save"
