Side glass

When MCR installed my coupe I went for all new side glass.  It was a bit of a jump, because it likely wasn't cheap, but it turns out to be very important to the finished feel of the car.

My convertible has a tinted windshield but, not being an AC car and not having the option, just has normal side glass.  But is our side glass specific to Canadian Pontiacs?  Or is it Impala glass?  Or ???

In other words, if I wanted to price and maybe order side glass what and where am I looking?

Thanks,
Dave

If the glass is not damaged, buff it out and use it. Glass is date coded and for that car I would keep it.

I've seen them try to do that on TV and it looks near impossible to do well... but I could sure experiment. Their kit is $70 and poorly rated though.

I would have  a professional glass person do it. Nobody reproduces the rear quarter glass for convertibles and it is different from the hardtop glass. My glass isnt perfect, but it was made with the car and my top is ALWAYS down,

I have asked several people in the glass business and they say it is next to impossible to polish out glass

That's my guess... that's from watching them try it on TV using the Eastwood kit that they're pimping for and getting ho-hum results. If the sponsor can't make it work...

Odds are, though, it's one of those craftsman things. The right guy with the right tool and product can likely do it, but you likely need to have some experience.

For 1967 Parisienne side glass is the same as Impala- given the equivalent body style. Im not sure about 1969 but Id hazard a pretty confident guess that your convertible side glass is exactly the same as 1969 Impala convertible.

One more thing Dave. I have complete glass for 1968 Parisienne convertible. Im in Vancouver BC area so not too far from you. If you are interested in this class I will go take a very close look at it and some pictures. But Im pretty sure the glass is in very nice shape. Anything else that might translate from 1968 convertible to your 1969 convertible parts wise, just let me know. The 1968 front side glass probably wouldnt work due to the vent windows but the rear side windows probably would.

U can polish light scuffs out make them a lot less noticeable but in the end it will always be there , not sure if they are flat or curved, tempered or laminate guessing tempered in 69 if it's flat temp you can have them made

In 69 they are tempered and curved. 69 Impala will work.

All convertible side glass is year unique 68-70.

But the quarter glass crosses 69/70.

Dave, I suggest you take a look at these old posts:
canadianponcho.activeboard.com/t53993344/tinted-vs-regular-glass-thread/

it contains a link to:

I presume your 69 2+2 would have DCL (Duplate Canada Ltd) glass in it. If so, I suspect you'd have a tough time finding it in the USA.

A quick side note. When selling the 454 Laurentian I took a look at all of the glass date codes. ALL of the glass was original to the car (including the windshield). The windshield and rear window had been removed at some point and re-sealed, but it was all proper date coded glass.

I had good limited success buffing out a rather deep windshield wiper arc on a 40 Packard windshield. Spent more than a couple of hours on it. Used the Eastwood kit. Took out most of the scratching but some of it was just too deep.
End result I saved the windshield but it will always have a mark in it.

Canadian and U.S. glass have different manufacturers marked on the glass.

Well, my black car has reproduction glass in it, and I drew the cost line at "new glass but don't bother date coding it". Oh, the shame of off-the-rack glass!

I would presume my repro glass isn't DCL. Honestly given the choice between scuffed up original glass and new glass with the wrong markings, I'd still take the new glass, but would prefer the old stuff of course. I'm going to pull some out and take a look at it. I imagine the door glass is worse, goes up and down the most.

If it's just light scuffs, I'll try the Eastwood stuff first.

For me, when both are not possible, "Looks New > Decodes Right"

65-70 quarter windows interchange on all GM full-size ragtops. Door glass was new in 69 but is shared with all GM full-sized hard-tops and ragtops.

Date and plant codes are a different matter of course.
