Canadian Positraction Sticker Reproduction

I have been unhappy with the reproduction Canadian Posi stickers I've been able to find. Firstly, the quality of the printing is blotchy and secondly, the design/font usage no where near close for my 70 (I've come to find that it is closer to 67 and early for design/font.) I'm a professional graphic designer, so these things leap out to me. So I set out to create a much better replica.

My stickers were created by using an intact original as a guide. The are as close to being correct, including the typos as seen on the originals, as you will ever be able to find. These stickers are correct for ALL GM cars with posi built in Oshawa. I have been able to confirm 69 through 72 as correct usage, though 68 and later than 72 *may* also be included. Any information to fine tune these applications is appreciated.

I've sold a number of these to very satisfied buyers, both here and on other Canadian GM car forums. You will not find a better example out there.

Shipping will be via USPS first class letter and the stamp is on me for up to 5 stickers ordered at once. After that, postage will be as incurred.

My 1965 truck used the same yellow sticker, so i think they are canadian back to at least 1965, maybe even 64 not sure?

For anyone interested, here's how Darryl's (pontiacanada) original 64 Parisienne decal compares to Michael's and the poor repop.

I'm thinking there were no doubt subtle differences in the print since the decal appeared, to when it stopped (in the mid 70's?).

But I'm actually surprised this yellow decal was used so early.

I am still looking for a good closeup of a 66 Canadian Pontiac B body decal, as well as a picture a little further back to show the location of it.

I would think the 66 Chevys build in Oshawa also have the same sticker,in the same location. Yes?

I wish I knew. I want to put my decal on in the right spot, so if nobody else is able to help I will contact the owner of my old 4 speed car. I know he will have it but he isn't on the site here very often to see this.

Someone had decals for sale here years ago and I bought a couple. After much scanning of it, I've determined it's neither the cheap reproduction decal shown, nor Michael's repro. I can't remember how I got it but I think AK67SD got a few at that time, a group of us maybe shared a purchase if I am right.

This is the one I got years back.

I can state, unequivocally, that the reproduction shown here uses the wrong font. I'm guessing off the shelf Helvetica for this example, with a more or less disregard for kerning and word-spacing. I have been a graphic designer and art director for over 20 years now, so attention to these kinds of details is what I do every day.

I matched the font family, font-weight, font-size and typeset on top of an original Oshawa built 70 Chevelle surviving example. Line spacing is the same. Letter spacing and word spacing are faithful. I've even included all of typographical errors as seen on the original example.

The above example is kinda close. At least it's cleaner than the example I purchased and angered me, which set me down this path...

Somewhere i have a pic of my 66 Malibu SS built in Oshawa... will scan it and post next week

I would very much like to see it! I'm thinking that 66 will too early for my example to stand in for (on a serious restoration), but I'd none-the-less love to have more evidence and research to be able to speak great authority in the future.

Post away, Johnnee D!!! Please!

 Carl,

I don't think there is a "right" spot, per say. My frame of reference is an early production model of a 1970 Chevelle SS396, built 5 week October '69 at the Oshawa plant. I have sold this sticker to other Oshawa Chevelle owners of similar vintage and the position the Posi sticker and the jacking instructions moved around a bit, from under-deck lid cut-out to cut-out. Here are two surviving examples, the last two being my own.

I can't believe that I omitted cost of stickers in my original post!

The price is $8.00 US per sticker. Postage will be via USPS First Class letter, and the cost is included for up to 5 stickers in one order. After that, weight/cost will be assessed and charged appropriately. Paypal has been a very good method for me in the past.

If you're interested, please send me an email at absinthe242@mac.com. Indicate your Paypal email address and how many stickers you'd like to purchase. I will send you an invoice via Paypal from there.

Dave, I would piggyback an order with your's, I'd like one. Really no point in me getting two I guess, I don't plan on having more old cars hmm

I apologize for bumping an eight month old thread;

Can anyone tell me which vehicles/platforms/assembly plants used stickers like this?

it appears from Michael's posts that this was generally under the trunk lid?

Hey man. No worries. I still have some, so the interest is appreciated.

Yes. This is an under-truck lid item for cars... not sure where it would be positioned for pick-up trucks.

At minimum, it is correct for all vehicles built at the GM Oshawa Ont. plant which had Positraction ordered for years '70-'72. That's the minimum.

It might be correct for '69, and after '72, but I've yet to absolutely confirm that. It is very similar, but incorrect for '68 and earlier, which has a slightly different font.

Dave! Great to hear that you they finally found their way to you and that you're pleased with them.

Can anyone with a 1969 anything with Posi confirm what your sticker looks like? Even if it's rough shape, please post or send me a photo. Thanks in advance.
