1950 Silver Streak 239 engine rebuild


I have a 1950 239 that I am re-building.  I also have another 1953 engine that was rebuilt and then frozen leaving the water jacket badly cracked.

Can anyone see any problems with using the crank, pistons .030 over, camshaft and head from the 53 onto the 1950 block?

All internal parts from the 53 block are in excellent condition, so this should make an economical build, I will need to have my 50 block bored to .030 over, and as I can see it everything else should fit.

The reason for this is that the 53 cam and head produce more horse power than than the 1950 series.  I will then still have a numbers matching engine in the car.

If anyone can see any problems please let me know.

I think you should be good to go. I do not have my manuals with me but if I remember correctly the compression ratio was raised as the years progressed. The automatic equipped cars always had a 1/4 to 1/2 increase in compression over standard equipped cars. I think the compression increase was in the cylinder head design.
