1958 Laurentian how to remove the Deluxe Radio and Instruments


Dear all,

I need to remove the Deluxe Radio to modify it to a todays FM radio.

Have removed first the knobs from the sound / tuner wheel also the srews which hold the radio from the front side in the panel, but cant slide the dam think out. confuse

Is the radio secured with aditional srews inside the instrument panel or is their a spezial trik how to take the radio out ???

Need also to take out the speedo because the instrument light is not working and I guess the litle lamp is defect.

Does some one of you can help me please with some tips how to take out the parts ? Or maybe where I can download a handbook where the procedure is explained ?

 

Any help is apreciated, many thanks

Magnus there has to be more screws to hold the radio in behind the dash also if the dash lights are similar to my 60 they may just push in to the instruments at the back of the dash.You shouldn't have to take the speedo out. You will need a torch to see behind the dash and a chiropractor after lying on the floor between the seat and the firewall trying to get your head under the dash. Good luck.

Get under the dash and look at the back of the radio, pretty sure you will see a stud with a nut holding the radio to a bracket.

And it likely comes out from the back side. The instrument lights may not be grounded, just turn the light or wiggle it in the hole and see if it lights. There are now leds available to replace these small bulbs which are brighter.

I have the '58 Manual with '59 supplement. I wont have access to them 'til Friday night. If this is still outstanding then, I'll upload any information I can find. Note, I've replaced lamp(s) in my '59 (similar cluster) by reaching from behind and unsnapping lamp c/w socket from rear of cluster. Talk to you Friday if still outstanding..

Hi,

have managed to take the radio out, it was aditionaly fixed by a screw on the inside of the panel.
Not to see from the underside

Anyway, I have open the radio to see if i could repair it but unfortunately allmost all elektrical components like resitors, capacistors and cables have not survived over the past.
Not such a problem, because I will replace the electric components against modern technology , only the mechanical part will remain to keep the original style of the radio.

Also all lamps from the instruments are defect, a change will be done soon.

P.S. I“m thinking to sell the car back to Germany, my good friend Jens is interrested in it but let see how it goes.
