Console woodgrains

The one on the right is my red 2+2 convertible, and the one on the left is the "best I could find at the time" on my black coupe.

Obviously the wood grain pattern is totally different.  I'm wondering if anyone recognizes the left as perhaps a 1968?  Or was it reprinted inaccurately at some point?

I wonder if the burgled wood appliqué is a Bonnieville or Caprice finish. Sorry can't add any pearls of wisdom but curious as well.

Yup  , the console woodgrain on the left is a 68 version , for the Grand Parisienne or the Caprice ONLY .  The rest of the 1968 models , offered the black mat finish only .  In 69 the wood grain was changed ( as per the right) , and applied to all models.

This applies to both 4 spd and AT  consoles.

My '68 doesn't have black matt. It has the brushed aluminum finish. It's automatic though.

JC2+2 can you post a pic? I've not seen one like that, but haven't seen many 68s.

 That's interesting, I don't think I've seen a 68 like that.

The second upside down picture is from my Brochure and shows four speed with same finish.

That's pretty, weird they didn't do that in 1969 given the dash is that same material, more or less!

Here's a photo of a 68 2+2 4 speed console:

Same brushed aluminum finish as JC2+2's 68 auto console.    I never realized the 68 Cdn Pontiac consoles were brushed aluminum like the 67's.

Interesting....  the 68 Grande Parisienne had the woodgrain pattern ( as did Caprice ) , 68 Impala had the black mat finish, and 68 Canadian built Pontiac's had the brushed stainless ( Obviously to match the dash bezel) .

In 1969 there was a new woodgrain pattern for both Impala's and Canadian built Pontiacs

( I would suspect the 68 4 spd brushed stainless console plate is a super rare part to find these days )

Interesting... I'll ask on the Impala board and report back what I find out.
