Wow!  This must be the same car...

Back in the 1980s, in the Halifax area, I saw the exact twin to this car... American Catalina, up from the south.  It was mint, and I mean mint, perfect, like new condition.  No rust (noted because even back in the '80s there was nothing local of 1965 vintage that didn't have rust - basically nothing of that vintage remained on the road unless it had been kept indoors and pampered).

Later on I found out through a friend that it belonged to a local guy that I knew of, but didn't know him to talk to him.  He was a kid from a well to do family, and he bought the Pontiac to drive around incognito as he had lost his license driving his new Mustang GT.  Every time I saw the sleek, shiny Pontiac on the road it reminded me of one of those Fitzpatrick illustrations from the American Pontiac brochures.

Anyhow, time passed and one day I noticed it drive by with the left rear end totaled.  I talked to the guy I knew and he said he heard that one day the rich kid was ticked off about something and he intentionally backed the Poncho into something large and immovable (like concrete).  My heart sank to see what had been done to such a nice car.

A year or two later, it was for sale locally, and I actually considered buying it but in the end I decided it would be too difficult to repair and parts for American Pontiacs weren't so easy to get up here (no internet back then).

Looking at these photos, I'm almost certain that it's the same car.  If not, it is some kind of crazy coincidence!!  How it ended up in Ontario is a bit of a mystery, but I guess anything is possible...
