Man, I am watching this hoping you get a reply. When I build my engine this winter hopefully, I want to "age" it and one of the things I planned to do is take the shine out of the Canadian Pontiac orange paint.

Try painting something with the glossy stuff, let it dry completely for a week or 2, then spray it with cheap oven cleaner. Let it sit for no more than 15 minutes and see what happens. You need to do the removal with a hose so not going to work for something in a car. Adjust time left on to suit the patina you are looking for and don't let the oven cleaner (lye) get anywhere bad.
The cheap oven cleaner will strip paint if left on for too long so timing is everything. Try it on a small part first?
Other option is to clear coat with a semi gloss or matte.
I've never done any of this but have no problem suggesting ideas for "other people". I paint mine with gloss and the oil leaks give them a patina in short order........
