Talk about your rare items.  Wonder what production numbers would be for that specific combo?

That 1971 is about a foot longer than my 1970's. They sure didn't see the oil embargo coming.

That '71 Laurentian was built after February 71, based on the number of louvers on the trunk lid. They started out with many louvers, reduced them mid-year because of water leakage complaints, then eliminated completely for 1972 (they just vented out the door jamb vents).

The ad says "SS rims". Looking closely I can see that they are the same wheels used on one of those 1990ish 454SS pickups with the 5" bolt circle.

I have seen numerous full-sized Pontiacs with inline sixes, but that is the first 1971 model I have ever seen so equipped. That is saying a lot.  As a car-spotter since the 1960s, I learned back in '71 a quick tell for that generation is a single left-hand tailpipe for the six vs. right-hand tailpipe (or duals) for V8s. I have never heard of a '72 with a six, the final year they offered it until the downsized 1977s.

In the context of 1971-76 Pontiac B-bodies, the 3-speed column & clutch pedal setup would be a very rare item. They only came on base V8s August 1970 - February 1971, plus the sixes through 1972. That is, if anyone ordered one.

These cars have one of those front ends that the longer you look at it, the weirder it is. Like Carl suggests, It would be cool to swap in a BBC and a 4 speed.

God, how cheap could the original buyer have been. It's radio delete even. Cool car for sure.

Is it an Oshawa car?

I'd love to see the GM docs for this car.

Yeah, the front end on those always reminded me of a styling concept that made it to production before it went through the entire approval process!

I'm kind of split on the whole convert it to big block 4-speed thing.  While the coolness of such a conversion is obvious, and the car surely would be a dog with a little six in it, it is such a unique and unusual combination it would be almost a shame to turn it into a hot rod.   I think it would be safe to assume that there wouldn't be more than 1 or 2 more of those out there remaining... if that.  In all my fifty some years of being a car guy, I've never seen that combination in one of those cars... I'm sure the production numbers would be very low.

So.... preserving history vs having fun... tough call.

I agree, never seen anything like it. However, I am betting a good percentage of us here, if we owned it, would drive it about a week before we ripped out that 6 and put a V8 and a stick in it.

My friend in Nebraska bought a nice little 66 Canso SD here years ago. He said he was going to leave the 194 in it. I bet him he would change it. When I talked to him a week later his words were something to the effect of "That 6 cylinder has to go....."

I wonder what gears this Laurentian has.

I'm not bashing this car but I bet it will be hard pressed to bring 2K.

But it sure is a cool car!

Well... this one's rough enough that you probably wouldn't feel too guilty bashing another drivetrain into it.  I personally would have a rough time with it though.  Have found that driving underpowered cars can be a challenge in itself... but that's another story.

Beige with blue seems like a strange combo.  Looking at the bits of blue paint showing at the door-end and rocker panel, and what looks like beige overspray on the seat belt housing, I'm wondering if this one was originally blue outside...

I think you're spot on. The door latch bearclaw and the door decals have tan overspray. And I see traces of blue to the left of the latch.

Of all colours...

Car was repainted a while back and is now in the advanced bubbling stage again. Have to question what the under side looks like.

Yup, you can pull a 194 out of an Acadian and bolt in a 427. Ask me how I know........

The beauty of the interchange on Canadian Pontiac powertrains, far superior to any other manufacturer.

I had a blue 1972 back about 1973 with a 6, PG & PS

Trans. ext housing was about 24" long !

Curious if this 3 speed has a unique tail, must have as the T350 and T400 were 18" I believe

It had been a Montreal Taxi previously. still remember, paid $ 1,000

Decent price for a good running, year old sedan

Typing practice exercises  for tonight!! They wore me out !!

Thanks

Randy

Indeed a good price. The high miles within a year wouldn't bother a six / Powerglide taxi.

Oh, and keep up the good fight Randy! Keep on building those synapses.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

You'd think that by 1972 sixes would be super rare in a full-size Chevrolet but for years I can recall 2 in Ancaster, another 3 in the Golden Horseshoe area, plus another in Toronto. There was a '71 six 3-speed in my neighborhood from 71 - 75 until it was replaced by a new Caprice. I have only ever seen one 1973 Biscayne L6 3-speed, and that was in Hamilton back in 1976. It belonged to an older Victorian Order Nurse.

Power front disk brakes were standard starting on that generation. From March '71 power steering became standard  and 3-speeds were six-only, as were Powerglides. For '73 the sixes were 3-in-the-tree only, running 3.42:1 rear gears. Earlier cars ran 3.08s.

Dad had a 71 Biscayne (early build, fall 1970) with a 350 245 hp and powerglide. Can't imagine a lot of those either.
