I think when it started in the early 70's the 8.5" was 28 spline and then 87 or 88 they went to 30 spline.

I detest when people post and list these things as, "posi's".... This is a locking differential, still RPO G80, that is installed into later '80's pickups wheather it be the S-10 series or full size series... (GM) Although it does have clutches, it also has a governor and latch plate that the normal disc type posi doesn't have...

Also, the locker is, under most conditions, is better in snow and mud as it will move a vehicle if 1 wheel has a higher traction surface... It will actually spin the single tire on pavement when it does lock... a posi will slip... The only downfall, you can and I have, broken the governor under severe conditions... (warranty related)

Another bonus, it takes 100rpm of wheel spin difference to lock it and it doesn't lock over 20mph... small in-town turns will generally have no posi chirps or grabbing... unless there is an issue. 

 

Our cars have 8.125 or 8.875 ring gears... plus, 3/8" right hand thread crown bolts... this would use the 7/16" fine left hand thread crown bolts...
