I suspect that there is no factory tach because it is just a powerglide.

Wonder how old that dual stripe whitewall is, I think they were only made in bias ply so its likely from the 70's if not the 60's.

Can't remember if a tach was standard with a 4 speed only or if it was standard with a 300HP 327 and 409's (which were the only motors with a 4 speed option). It may have been there but removed or never there?

I saw an unrestored 64 Impala with PG and 340HP 409, it had a tach, but I guess that could have been an added option, it was a US car.

What concerns me most on that car is he says the 409 is free not stuck,,thats not to say its rebuildable, cracked block.heads ,? with out the factory 409 its a c/s ..too much money for me to risk that the motor is rebuildable..theres gotta be a very good reason why the car is sitting outside in a field,,409"s weren't only driven to church by little old ladys back then..

I suppose its the same reason why I found this 409 C/S in a farmer's field on a trailer Jan. 19, 2010 another bitterly cold day 9 years ago,

This one actual ran.

I believe the tach was included with 4 speed on B bodys with 300 HP or more.

If I remember correctly, up to approx 1963, before the Muncie, RPO M20 meant 4 speed trans, 250 HP

RPO M21 meant 4 speed trans with 300 HP or more with tach included.

RPO U16 was for a tach when not included in RPO M21

As everyone knows, M20-M21 were Muncie RPO's once they began production.

Thanks

Randy

Well Bill that 409 I dug up for the brotherhood came to Ontario from Saskatchewan in te 80's and went straight in a barn. The only reason it was our in the field was because the barn fell in.

Have a read, its a pretty good thread:

On 64 Canadian Pontiacs.....I think the factory tach...was part of the 4 speed option...

Never seen an original....or documented one on a PG car........
