Bellhousing Wanted For 11" Clutch

Does anyone happen to have a bellhousing for an 11" clutch? I am thinking eventually I will want to change over to an 11".

The original one for my car would be a 3899621 casting number.

Bellhousing Wanted For 11

I am hoping for an original just because, and also I read on one forum that the buyer had trouble with his not being "true" which cause issues. I am told it needs to be extremely tight as to tolerances.

Finding a good 621 bellhousing is a challenge.

When gathering parts for my 4 speed swap, I bought one on ebay from somewhere in Canada and it was cracked and had some chips out of the block mating surface. When I queried the seller, he said "well I held it up and banged it, and it rang like a bell so I thought it was ok". I ended up returning it.

The second one I bought has some hairline cracks, it looks like where the molten aluminum flowed into the mold. When I queried that vendor, I got no reply. That's the one I used. On the plus side, it included the bolts for tranny mounting.

The inspection cover is readily available.

Carl, a pre 63 cast iron will work fine while you are looking for the correct one, all were for the 168 tooth flywheels. Search for the closed bottom aluminum for the corvette BBs for 65 on. There are later closed bottom aluminum bhs from trucks that will work as well.

Does the truck housing have the threaded boss in the side for the Z bar pivot ball for B bodies?

I'm hoping to find one closer to home, and preferably from a site member or someone I know. I see them on ebay and Craigslist though, yes.

Im not familiar with these new cars Carl, newer than 64 that is. As a guess, Id say the newer truck bh would have this as why would gm make a different one for the truck? The geometry would be the same for a bb car and truck in later years?

Truck one will work. Go to your local pick-a-part and grab one. I spied a couple here in NS at a junkyard that I'm going to grab when it dries up here. Can't get at them right now, they're frozen in the ground and when it warms up it's a mud pit.

We just installed one on my brothers Nova and it's perfect. Has the screw in ball for z bar. Pulled it off a '79 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive truck in the summer. Polished it and looks great!

Just remembered a site that you can look at. 4speedconversions.com They give all the information needed for you in regards to what fits what, and what bellhousing came from what type of vehicle. It's pretty good.

Does that have the 4.68" hole for the transmission input housing? I thought the trucks had a bigger opening in them. I think the trucks were about 5" maybe?

I'd hold out for a 621 bellhousing.

 I checked with the seller.  The 11" car bellhousing isn't a 621.

casting # 464697, he says it's the same as 3899621.   I just looked at a few on ebay, they look the same as 3899621 to me.

From what I read about this 697 bell housing there are two types and it depends were the clutch fork pivot ball is located. If it's mounted in the top position of the mounting boss your good to go and if mounted in the lower position in the boss it puts the clutch fork in the wrong position .  This according to the four speed convention site.
