Part wanted. 1962 Parisienne

Hello. I am new to the site. If I am at the wrong place please let me know. I am seeking the cover/plate for the underside of the steering column for a 1962 Parisienne. Any color. There are not many available in the Southeastern US. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks steve

One other thought, there is likely one from a US model that would fit and since you are in Alabama, you may find one there. Maybe a Catalina? Measure the bolt holes distances apart to compare to any found.

What car do you have- post pics, we love pics.

There was a parts business in BC- The Tin Man. It closed last year but may have been bought by someone, maybe someone here will post.

Search on Kijiji, in Canada it has more listings that Craigslist, except maybe in BC? All 61 and 62 Canadian Pontiacs would work, same dash, in all models, Parisienne, Laurentian, and Strato Chief.
www.kijiji.ca/b-canada/l0 to do a Canada wide search. Just search one word at a time for the 3 models, even skip year.

Here's some ads.

Thanks everybody!  Working to get off my phone on to a more compatible device That can send better photos

Hello DonSSDD   Finding 50+ year old parts in the US is tough. Finding Pontiac parts is even tougher.   Canadian Pontiacs maintained their specific dashboards instead of adopting the US cousins (Catalina and Bonneville) when partial assembly occurred. I believe the gear selector went inside the dashboard on US pontiacs whereas the Canadian gear selectors are external.   Again, I am not sure because there are not many (zero) examples in my area.  I have the only pre 63 I know of - US or Canadian.   Most cars that old are gone, crushed or not for sale

I have a 1962 Parisienne Convertible.  I will try to send pics and history in another post. Interesting history. Lots of online searching to understand the car and how it came to be.

i did find limited info on TinMan and I contacted Steve on Kijiji about the 61 he is parting out. Waiting to hear back

Thanks.   steve

I bought this car about two years ago. I was looking for a convertible (1958-64) with simple lines and not curvy like Buicks or Oldsmobiles. Was leaning toward Chrysler. In the US, 55s through 70s Chevy convertibles are overpriced. I found this 62 Parisienne at a swap meet and fell in love with it.

History to the best of my knowledge:  Car was from Montreal. I have the original keys that indicate that, including the notched trunk key. I also have the original owners manual and convertible top operation instructions.

I bought it with later model rally wheels but have the original wheels and hubcaps. Odometer reading was 21k miles and does not appear tampered with.

The car has the original seat covers and door panels. Bucket seats with center console. Same upholstery configuration as a 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS, just skinned with Pontiac Logo.   Has been repainted factory color (White) once and carpet has been replaced. Other than the missing Steering Column plate and bumper jack it is a complete car And everything works except the clock.

I have had the complete running gear rebuilt: pinion gear seals replaced, drive shaft bearings replaced, power glide transmission rebuilt w/new torque converter and flywheel, converted brakes to power front disc and new rear shoes, has complete front end rebuilt w/shocks.

Generator had already been converted to an Alt.

283 engine is strong. No smoke. Changed distributor to electronic.

Last and most importantly, had AC installed. In the southern US, you cannot drive fast enough to cool off.

i have seen pictures of the car online but cannot track them. Maybe someone knows something about it or has seen it before.

The story and logistics as I know them: Car was owned by elder gentleman in Montreal and was put into storage for a long time. Was purchased by an elder gentleman in Pennsylvania about 5-8 years ago. Then sold to someone in Mississippi about 5 years ago. That person then sold the car to the person I bought it from in Mobile, Alabama About 4 years ago. I have had it for the last 2 years. Sorry to be so long winded. I will attach (attempt) photos. If anyone knows anything about this car please let me know. Thanks.   steve

I checked both of my 62 Parisiennes and they look the same as your pic. Not sure there is a cover that goes there. Dont even see any mounting holes.

Steve, a hardy welcome aboard from Milton, Ontario, Canada. Glad you found us here on C.P. and i hope you enjoy your experience here. That is such a sweet looking 62 and it has always amazed me where some of our Canadian vintage cars end up. That 62 is obviously in good hands and good luck with her. Cheers.

Beautiful Parisienne.

Did you know this dash was the stock dash for right hand drive chevies from 61-64, maybe longer? Those built for Australia, Britain, South Africa etc?

You can get some info from gm Canada heritage docs on your car, it was confirm what it was when built for colour, engine, transmission , date built and sold, and selling dealer. Good to have, especially when selling it.

Hello everyone.   I believe Ashmore May be correct about that particular part - it may not exist. I just assumed that the piece was missing since the area looked incomplete. I cannot believe an auto design engineer would leave it like that. I went online and looked at some other 62 Parisiennes (Not many examples) and see the same issue.  The existing screws had convinced me that there was something missing. Again, heart felt thanks to everyone for helping.

DonSSDD, yes I have researched the right hand conversion an it appears that there is indeed enough breakpoints in the dash line to reconfigure in that the overall dashboard (top) is generic on each end. Thanks for the data search info.

Thanks Long Stroke.  I had visited the site prior to joining for information and enjoyed the information shared and friendly communication.

I love the styling of the car (straight clean lines) and really like that the drive train is Chevy. Makes mechanical parts easy to find. Most of all - no one else has one like it!

Thanks.     steve
