Questions my late 63 327 has the soup can under the intake, and is connected to the hole in the back of the block with a hose..I want to omit the soup can with a after market intake and run a pvc hose from back of carb to after market valve covers..what do you do with the hole in the back of motor that the hose gos into ?? or what should I do..I noticed in my 64 C/S that there was NO pvc in covers and the hose from the soup can was just in the hole of motor and hanging down between fire wall and block...so confused ?? so yep need help..again lol
Find a frost plug that is the correct size and hammer it in the hole at the back. As long as you have a fresh air intake (ex. oil fill tube or valve cover breather). and a PCV in the valve cover as well than you will be fine.
on earlier(pre 1963) the "soupcan hole" went to a road draft tube, like you describe. just dumped crankcase gasses onto the roadway, this was before pcv valves.

MY BEAUMONT HAS 4 STUDDED TIRES AND 2 BLOCKHEATERS......AND LOTS OF OIL UNDERNEATH. The other one has a longer roof.
can't figure out how the 283 ran so good as it was road dumped yet no pcv and no valve cover breathers..Maybe breather on add oil tube was good enough ?

Go to show-cars.com and find the conversion kit for the pcv from the road draft tube. Search pcv. Its the 63 327 setup, I used it on my 59 283.
It includes a rubber plug with a hole in it for the hole next to the distributor, a pipe that fits in the hole in the rubber, rubber hose that connects that pipe to a pcv, the pcv connects to a port with full manifold vacuum on your carb.
Your oil fill tube- is it a vented cap or non vented with a nipple?
