62 G/P tach wiring?

Have my friends 62 G/P tach which is reading "very low rpm's"  he said there's only 3 wires going to it,1 for light, one to dist. and 3rd. is ground. going to kook it up that way to wagon for a test but shouldn't there be a 12V feed????

If it's like I recall for 66, which I bet it is, gray for light, black for ground, brown to the "-" on the distributor.

I hooked tach up to wagon's HEI distributor as per Carl's first reply. 1 wire to Tach connection & ground to case, It worked, idled at 800 & went to 3000 on a "good" shot of 'go fast pedal"!!! So the problem is in the 62 G/P's hook up??? Thanks folks for info
