66 Grande Parisienne, what is IT worth?

Hi I have a 66 grande parisienne 2dht. 396cui th400. It was imported from Canada to Norway in 1996. The car is in good condition and has only been used in the summertime. But in the last years it has become a garage queen. It just sits in the garage. So, I am considering to sell it. But what is it worth? This is a very rare car in europe, so I have nothing to compaire the car with. -Mathias

Can you post pictures of it for us to get a better idea? Some good interior pictures, good pictures of the engine compartment?

Is all the chrome good? Emblems are all there and not pitted? What options does it have? Do you have the GM documentation for it?

One thought, though, is that the valuation in Canada may not reflect that of Norway. I would think that it would be valued similarly to other full size American cars in your country, even though it is uniquely Canadian. I suspect its Canadian heritage would be less meaningful in Norway than it would be in Canada. That said, it might be worth more there than here, due to its scarcity of being a big North American car, and the costs involved with shipping one from here (where the supply is greater) to there. Just my thoughts...

Thanks, I saw that but I was thinking more of pictures of the interior, underhood, trunk, chassis etc.

I will post some more photos soon, but yes the car is in very good condition. It won a price «top ten» in a car show in year 2000, and are seen in several car magazin in Norway and Sweden. Have full documentation from gm Canada that I will post soon. I just have to find everything

I will gladly once we see more of the car. Sadly, the market for these isn't as hot as if it was an Impala SS (and you know how I feel about that!)

This is pretty much one of the most beautiful cars of the 60's, they hit a home run with that design.

I'll take a stab at it, but that's all it is... just a guess based on limited information and limited knowledge of the marketplace (i.e. looking at kijiji).

I would say in the Canadian market that it could bring in the viscinity of $30,000 Cdn.  But you would have to find the right buyer.

Pluses:

- Unique Canadian car - a combination of the US Grand Prix and Chevrolet Caprice (one of the more attractive Canadian Pontiacs in my opinion)

- Big block car

- Clean appearance, attractive colour that (in my mind) defines the 1960s

Minuses (based on my interests only - your mileage may vary)

- Automatic transmission (but at least not a powerglide)

- Lowered with non-stock wheels (but this might be a plus to other buyers) and no skirts (or no wheel opening moulding in lieu of the missing skirts)

- In Canada and the US, full-size cars don't achieve the same valuation as mid-size 'musclecars'.

The above is only my opinion and is open to dispute. This is assuming that the car is in 'mint' condition, with no rust and all metal panels (no bondo, no obvious signs of repair), and that engine/transmission works perfectly and that the car drives, handles and brakes similar to new condition, and that the interior appears as original with no obvious signs of degradation.  Note that I am not an appraiser, just a guy who likes old cars...

Again, I don't know what the valuation would be in Norway as I understand that the full-size cars seem to be extremely popular in Scandinavia.

Best of luck to the OP on the sale...

I'd say a factory documented big block in that nice exterior condition car will always approach $20,000.

I did a quick comparison on site here and see prices ranging on big block cars 1966 - 1969 from $18,000 to $25,000 asking price. No information on selling price available.

As has been said, we know the Canadian Market so market demand and conditions in Europe may be very different than here. One thing to realize is supply of these type of cars is much greater here so when supply is good price is down. Although a big Block 66 Grande Parisienne will always turn a head or two in Canada we can show dozens of big block cars, have a look:

Jonstorp Classic Cars in Sweden buys a lot of Canadian Pontiac's and sells them in Sweden (where they are based). They could probably give you an idea on the value of their car. Here is their Facebook link: www.facebook.com/JonstorpClassicCars/
