Alternator clock position for a V8

Does anyone have some definitive proof of what clock position the back of a delco remy alternator is suppose to be for a 283 V8

I am mainly interested in an Abody chevelle or beaumont years 1964 and 1965.   seems to be a mix of 50/50 when i scour the internet

I want to see a real deal original or some GM photos showing what was factory correct.

I would see if you can find an assembly manual. It would probably show the orientation of the alternator due to the wiring connections.

Similarly could look on my 65 CS

Don't think we could trust my 64 SD to be original.

Sorry Dave, it's up in the air right now with our other car underneath, I can't open the hood. I hope to have it down in a day or two and I can get a picture then.

Here is a picture of the one that came with the hardtop I am restoring, it is oriented different than the one in my convertible, but the one in the convertible is a rock auto one. I still have the original for the convertible in a box somewhere

Dang, second picture is upside down.

Its just somthing i noticed on all my cars, so i got to thinking,  which is correct for a V8 and which is correct for a 6cyl.  Then while researching, all the manuals, there is no real good pics of a factory setup.  Then i could look at most of the cars i owned over the years, many being low mile originals,  and found a mixed bag.  then i went to the internet and found the same thing. Then i went to rock auto and looked up a 6cyl chevelle,  tehy show both versions,  swiched to a V8 and they show the same 2 versions.  Its almost like GM may have used either clock position, but i rather doubt it.   One most be a True V8 and the other must be for a 6cyl.

Working on my 65 beaumont deluxe station wagon,  Concours would be a giant NO,  but its going to be a cool car back from the dead.  Hopefully roadworth(but not too pretty) for the summer.

Thanks brian

Ya,  that is the one i am leaning toward for a V8.  Lets call that one "the turned 90 degree" one.  It has the correct hole for the wiring clip, and being turned 90 degrees gives it more clearance for the front of the valve cover when adjusting the belt.
