Have you ever wanted to wring the neck of a friend? How about someone who stuffed a CD in your Corvette Delco Bose Gold series as his quick method for fixing your radio, oh there already was a CD in there?
This rendered the radio, CD and cassette completely unusable. Luckily this "friend" was also a retied mechanic and he told me that GM dealers exclusive contract for repairs was with York Electronics in Oshawa. I called them and yes they would look at my radio even though I wasn't a dealer. In their words, " its a 27 year old Corvette radio, we're your only choice."
I drove the radio out one Friday morning in April and traffic was non existent. This place is near the GM plant in Oshawa. They looked at it and said well we have to send it to Calgary, the old guy who knows this stuff isn't working due to COVID-19, don't worry we have two locations and we send things back and forth all the time. Monday morning at 10:00 am Toronto time I get a call from Calgary asking me where is the CDM? Now I get an education...the 93 Corvette Bose Gold system has six components, the AM/FM/Cass/CD in dash, 4 Bose enclosures with speakers and amplifiers and the CDM, the Control Data Module, the tuner or receiver, the brains of the entire system!
Turns out this CDM is under the rear storage compartment behind the passenger seat in the Corvette. It wasn't too bad to disconnect out side of the 5 harnesses and antenna and fasteners keeping it on the side of the car body, luckily I have a convertible which made access easier. I send it out to Oshawa, Oshawa to Calgary. Another call back Thursday. Ya let me know whats going on, sometimes they react to weather so its in the freezer right now. I now learn that this is a one year only radio for the 40th Anniversary so parts might be hard to find. Next morning, Friday they call me back with an estimate and I can't say Yes fast enough when he says $196.20!! Radio arrives Monday morning at 11:30 am, I still don't know how they courier so fast. Radio CD it all woks great so great that we just play CD's in the garage listening to them, sounds like a concert.

hmmm, never heard of the Calgary location. I presume they're into the modern stuff.
My 27 year old radio was no issue for your Calgary tech, who barely sounded over 30 to me. Of course I suspect there are quite a few here who think 27 years old is modern. If it's GM give them a call, they have all the blueprints, harnesses and access to parts and manuals. Exclusive GM Canada supplier.
How often do the words: its a 27 year old Corvette (pick your part), we're your only choice." end up with the part properly fixed, with a reasonable price tag?

Back in the day the big repair depot for fixing GM Radios was "MASS" (Mobile Auto Sound Systems). Are they still around? Every GM dealer I worked at used them. When I first started at a GM dealer (1986) we had an in house radio repair tech.

MASS no longer has GM contract. They still operate but not servicing GM dealer network. They are north of 407 west from Leslie Street, Richmond Hill ON. Last time, before this, I had a radio issue was a warranty replacement on my 99 GMC Suburban, all CITY did was call MASS who did a straight exchange with a radio they had already refurbished or had in stock.
wow!
thanks for this info!!
I have a small stash of older GM radios that I like... I never knew this was an option!!
