So I went and changed the tank in my 65 before looking inside, assuming it would be bad. And after draining it and looking inside, it's in surprisingly good condition. I could have just cleaned it up and used it as is. The fuel that came out of it was pretty clean as well.
Just as the entire underbody of the car, it's covered in a very high quality thick wax oil, which I assume was applied when the car was new. I guarantee that when it is removed from the tank with solvent, It'll look pretty close to new. Don't let the picture fool you.
If you're looking for a better 65-66 tank for your driver, this would be a cheap solution to replace one that is bad. Look at spending 250 CD minimum for a new basic cheap tank. This tank will work on 67-70 as well, with a reroute on the sender wires and a different fuel line flex hose and a 65-66 sender .
The tank has one minor dent on the bottom. I'm hoping someone will take it as it just can't sit around here.
So free, with a donation to the site if you will. And it does have a box to sit in so you don't get oil all over everything.
Shame to scrap it, it's still a usable tank that I think will look pretty good cleaned up. But I suppose if you are going to the trouble to change your tank, you'd probably want new anyways.
Like the threat ad goes " I'm warning you, It will be scrapped if nobody takes it in the next 48 hours"....

I have one for a GTO that looks like it will fit. Sure didn't fit the Catalina tank I have which by the way is full of dents in the front. Guess the car was off roaded back in the day.
