65-66 Rear lower B control arms, same as 67-70?


Are the rear lower control arms the same on a 65 as a 67? 

 

Reason I ask, is I'd like to detail and put 4 arms together pre conversion for a 12 bolt. I'd like to do a 12 4 arm to replace the weak and worn 10 bolt 3 leg (and both are loose!!)

I have a pair of nice 67's lowers from our good member Cliff already. And have one more 65 upper bracket (from cliff).

The GM parts books says all 65-68 lower arms interchange, together with 69-70 lower arms if it's a 6 cyl 69-70. For some reason 69-70 V8 cars have a different part number.

I got some rear lower control arms out of a 68 Parisienne convertible and they had the smaller front bushings. I'm pretty sure it was a V8 car.
The 69 & 70 rear lower control arms I've seen all have the larger front bushings.

This is interesting. The parts book says lower front control arm bushing 1965 to 1970, they're all the same. But obviously real life experience overrides the parts book. (I got moderated when I used a different word!!!) They show the outside diameter as being 2.06 inches. They don't show any other front bushing for a 65 to 70 lower control arm.

On the spare arms I have, The front bushing is 1 5/8" shell dia. The rear is 2 1/8".

So yes, smaller on these Clint.

So back to those bushings, what's the deal? Why does the parts book say it all the same stuff? I don't get it.

I'm going to dig in the US Chevrolet parts book later tonight, maybe it has some other listing.

It would be nice to finally figure this out. And to understand even what the reason for the smaller bushing was.

That being said, does anyone have a single spare 65-66 rear upper? I'll need one.

Looking through the rock auto resource, the rear uppers/rear lower, rearward are all Moog 6075, 65-70

And the lower forwards are all AC 45G11005 or Centric 60262047.

On another site I found Moog SB245 listed at lower rear forward.

2.06" 1962-1970

I have spare upper control arms from 68 - 70 (both freshly removed, or bare but blasted & painted), I've presumed they're the same as 65 - 66.   Are they different?

I'm glad you went through this and posted about it Mark. I'm getting ready to order 8 bushings for my car and the parts book is confusing. I think I'll just have to look on the car to see what it has. I know the uppers will be fine, they will need4 of 3964043 GM, K6075 Moog, 2.5". Also the lower rear appears to always be that number as well, at least for 65-66.

It's the lower fronts that seem to need investigation to know the correct size.

Thanks but I won't be doing any aftermarket type stuff on my car. I want it to look original when I've done the work. Those are likely a good idea though.

I'll be interested to see what size the lower forward bushing are Carl. I need to get my butt in gear and start putting all the stuff together for the rear upgrade.

Cliff, I did something similar in my 67, but just a single spherical joint (Johnny Joint) on the forward chassis ends ends, poly on the axle. Spohn Performance. Gorgeous pieces, they work great and the ride really isn't bad in the least. Would I do it again, I don't think so. I'm getting old and like soft, mushy and... cheap.

Mark, your 65 had 6 bushings the same, the other 2 (the lower arm forward bushings) were different?
