Watched that car for a few years. Then back in the days when the brother in law and I were racing thought maybe we'd build a car and go there. Shipping for the
car...bust my nu@s!! 2 teens with a bit of $$..but not that much! Would luv to have a venue on the Island for this kind of race! But don't think anyone on the Island would put up with that now! I would be totally up to an old back road Cowichan run. Anyone into this on the Island??We need to get something going
This car was very competitive in the years it was here for the Targa; that said, it's been a while since it's competed. I loved the look and sound of that car going down the road.
I haven't been on this site in quite sometime, so it was a fun surprise to see photos of my Acadian at Targa. It ran Targa from 2002 to 2009 with the Acadian, then went back in 2011 for the 10th anniversary with a C5 Z06 Corvette.

I am talking to a Legend! I watched but never researched. Where was the car from and what suspension?? Never realized how clean that car is until I saw the still pics. Remember it kinda stuck out like a BIG Thumb watching the race... Do you still have the car? Drive it on the street/strip? Run any other tracks? I could go on &on......

I found the car though an Old Auto Trader ad and travelled with my wife and dog to Kelowna, BC to check it out. We purchased the car and proceed to drive it back to Ontario. It too forever ....
It was a 283, bench seat, powerglide equipped sport coupe with a radio. The body was pretty solid and it had recently been repainted. It is the original Nantucket Blue. I was never a big fan of the Acadian grill, so I replaced it with a '66 Chevy II one so I could also put the signal lights into the bumper.
I've been hot rodding it ever since and competing in autocross, time trails, time attack and running track days.
I built a 'truck arm' NASCAR style rear suspension, complete with adjustable coil-overs, panhard bar and anti-sway bar.
I still have the car and plan to run the Ontario Time Attack Championship series with it this year.

Thanks for the info. Looks like you arched the front wheel wells a bit? 2nd the nomination for feature car. Would luv to hear more about the car and it's owners.

Good observation on the change to the front wheel wells. I did that over 20 years ago and you're the first person to comment about them. I raised the top of the wheel well opening about 1 1/2". I did this to get around the challenge of limited tire space when the car is lowered. It's timely that you mention this as on my 'to do list' is to raise the rear arches about the same amount to allow me to more easily remove the rear wheel and tire assembly.

I don't want to violate any forum rules, so let's just say it was a my co-driver's yellow 2003 that we succeed in finishing 5th overall at the 2011 Targa Newfoundland.

Been awhile since I've seen that video. It was probably in 2009. It was a fund day taking people for rides while raising money for a local cause. I must have did 10 runs.

Very cool. That must have been for the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame - somewhere between 2014 and 2016 I'm thinking. To this day when I go to the track I get at least one person asking me "is that the Targa car?".
