‘69 Full-Size 427 Accelerator To Carb Rod


I am looking for the correct accelerator rod used in the big block full-size cars. The rod that connects to the carb. If nobody has one, maybe a picture of one from your car? I am currently using one that is close...I think!? Thanks!

When I did the big block conversion in my 70 2+2, I just re-used the small block rod. Likely 4 or 5 years ago someone had the correct rod, and I bought it from them and installed it. I think I have a photo of the 2 rods, but I'd have to see which of the 2 rods is small block and which is big block. Let me do some digging, but if all else fails I can take a photo of the one now on the car.

Thanks. I have been searching for a correct big block rod since I got the car, but no luck. You would think someone a reproduction would be available...but nope. I just need to know what Im looking for.

If someone is able to come up with good pictures including dimensions there's a good possibility I would have one. I've parted out a couple of those. Do you know off the top of your head if 396 is the same?

Great picture Mark and that is not what I have on my car. The car came with one that had been broken or cut and welded together. Probably a custom job! Also, the rod would have to be for a quadrajet. All I have looked for, is one for an Impala, maybe another model used the same rod? I have found some parts to be interchangeable off Corvettes! Thanks for checking your parts bins guys!

From what I've seen, it's almost like a 67 327/275 is very similar, at least in length. Just heat, straighten and re bend one in the right spots and it might pass.

 I currently am running a '67 Camaro rod for a 327 or 350. The bend is outward rather than downward. It works, just would rather have a correct one.

This one is from a '67-'69 302 Z28. Looks adjustable so the rod bend could be downward.

I'll see if I can post a photo of the one on my 70 454. As indicated above I got it from someone on here probably 4 or 5 years ago, they said it was the right one but I don't really know.

Here's the one from my 70 454 that I got from someone 4 or 5 years ago.   It doesn't have any bend up (possibly because 1970 went with a low-rise intake manifold), but the bend in seems to be further towards the carb lever to get around the kick-down switch better.    I don't know where my original rod is to check between the two, but once I get a small block car home I can compare (although I know I have a photo showing the 2 here somewhere).

A mid year change went to a throttle cable, and the kick-down switch moved to under the dash above the gas pedal.

That looks similar to the one on my car now. It does appear the bend is for clearing the kickdown switch. The 70 rod is going to be different than the 68 or 69 rod, as it has a different part number.

So, I'm bumping this up because I know someone has to have one on their '69 full-size 396 or 427 car. If I could get the following measurements of the accelerator rod: length from threaded end to the bend; length from the bend to the end that attaches to the carburetor; and overall length, when the rod is laid on a flat surface, lay a tape measure on the surface underneath the rod and measure end to end. This way, I can figure the degree of bend. If anyone can provide this information, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!
