i have a am/fm radio id like to put in my 65 impala i went to test it but it has a plug in the back for power i presume never seen this before anyone familiar with this and anyone know
I searched 986101 on ebay, found a couple and they are listed as being 65 Impala AM/FM for use with Multiplex. Again, I may be wrong about this but I don't think the radio will work without being hooked up to a Multiplex unit.

Tim, copy this link into your search engine. (I couldn't make it live.)
It gives some history on your radio and includes pictures of a '65 application.
I'd say it's for the external multiplex unit that receives the 2nd channel. I have AM/FM Stereo units in my 70 2+2's, and they have the external multiplex unit that mounts above the glove box. So, you're missing half of your radio.
The existing connector you have with the green and black wires will be (looking at the back of the radio):
Ground (black), Front Speaker (green), 12v (yellow).
The multiplex should have the wire for the Rear Speaker (blue).
Yes, for multiplex unit. Cannot be used as is without, even for mono.
Pins need to be linked to use as a mono stand alone.
Glad to assist in this regard if you want to go that route.
