65-am-fm radio install

Been busy working on a few other projects and my 65 convertible has been sitting for quite awhile and now I am back to paying some attention to it. Finally getting around to installing am- fm radio and rear speaker switch in the 65 which i have had for years. The wiring harness has been cut and I am trying to figure out the wiring for the radio and speaker switch. I know it should be simple but I guess I am getting old.

I can help you with that. If you can give me some time I'll post a wiring diagram for it later this morning. Are you needing to work on it right away?

In the meantime, can you post pictures of what you have for wiring?

Hi 4SPEED427,

Thank you for your reply. I am not really in any hurry but I do have the dash all apart now So sometime in the next week would be good. This is a picture of what I have. I would also like to know what to buy for the rear seat speaker.1E5DBFEB-AB8F-4AF7-8DF2-4E43D560C8D3.jpeg

Yes the front speaker is but I have the top of the dash off so it is easily accessible

I dug out what I have here. I can't find my factory wiring diagram right now.

I'm doing this by memory, it's something I did on a few 66's way back when.

So in the picture, the connector top centre with the yellow and green wires going in to it should look like what you have now plugged into your AM.

Anyway, with the rear speaker setup you unplug that connector from the radio and plug it into the connector in my picture that has the brown wire (a continuation of the yellow wire) and a black wire with a green stripe. The brown wire goes into the connector in the left of my picture. That connector with the brown and green wires now plugs into the back of the radio. Brown (originally yellow) should be fused 12 volts. Green is the speaker output from the radio and it feeds into the speaker switch. The switch either feeds it back out to the black/green stripe only, the black/white stripe wire only or both (to give front and rear speaker at the same time).

When you said the wiring harness has been cut, are you talking about the underdash harness that's in the car? Or the wiring harness that's connected to your loose AM/FM radio?

I presumed you were talking about the underdash harness.

If it would help you at all, I would sell the switch and harness in my picture. It's almost what you have except your's is missing the connectors. You could make your's work though if you do a bit of work on it and copy mine.

Hi 4speed427,
Thank you for your help. Sorry to take so long to get back to you. Could you tell me what plugs into the red plug on the side of the radio.
