stainless exhaust.

So I decided...a while back...after I discovered that my new dual exhaust didn't actually run all the way back...that I would do something about that. My 63 283 2spd did not come into this world with a dual exhaust but I feel that it's a good upgrade. My car had that partially done. Nice new 2" down to stock resonators( dual ) and then older stock t-pipes.    What to do   So after much wallet angst and dithery-do with my better half I ordered myself a Shafer's Classic system via Summit Racing

Well...I don't know if anyone here has tried that on (from Canada) (online) but I'd like to tell you my experience... First off after endless searching through endless systems on Summit's site I decided I wanted a 2" front to back, exiting as stock just behind the rear wheels....In 304 stainless, mandrel bent . Nope not 410...304. I decided to go oval turbo for mufflers..also 304.

I did touch bases With Shafer's but ultimately went with Summit because I have an account there and have had good experiences with them. So I ordered a 2" 304 mandrel bent front to back turbo muffler stock manifold system for my 63 Parisienne. Oh ya plus their dual exhaust hanger kit. (also Shafer's Classic). Now I know this could stir a hornets nest but I do not know any pipe shop close to me that could produce this.

Please post your results with this when it happens. I know someone looking for a stock system for a 283 Beaumont and finding it is a problem.

So back in April I bit down and went for it....did I tell ya that?? Hmm well Backordered see.. Yup I knew that. I knew I would be on the wait list. Knew it goin in! lol. So April turns to May. I send off a couple of messages to Summit. They say "nothing to be done" I say "are they even making it?" They follow up with yes but now it's July. Bla bla bla .. Dates move ..many tracking crisises (many) and finally holy cow two big ol cardboard boxes show...almost. not dhl not loomis not anyone to do with anything..or tracking...a local company phones my house saying there's a parcel. Let mem reiterate no one from Summit,DHL,Loomis Express, or any other carrier ever made contact or assisted in this somewhat pricy dilemma

You sure have my attention, I'm not bored!

I've only ever heard the names Waldron, Gardiner and Pypes tossed around.

Classic Exhaust out of Ohio is also an option. Sure I've mentioned them here before. Quick shipping, very good price, and an excellent fit. Couple extra cuts are made just for easier shipping.

Yes, I got a system off them for my 65 Acadian. They've put their prices up a lot in the last short while though.

I'm about to fit my Magnaflow system which has been sitting in storage (the back of my VW Camper) for most of this year. This is not a replica stock system of course because it's two and a half inch from about 9 inches below the headers and stainless, but designed for X frame Chevrolet cars.

I was lucky they have a distributor in the UK and that made it my best choice financially and for ease of installation. At least that's my hope!

Schafers for the x frame are rated the best fit by the Chevy crowd, including those who are 100 point car show people. Somebody start a go fund me so I can get one of them?

Have you got the dual X-frame hangers? They make a tidy job. Search for Chevy ones.

Yes, I did get the hanger kit as the exhaust system only comes with a generic set.. I will sell what's on my car when i finish up . It has 2 new 2 inch from the stock center dumps back thru the long stock mufflers/resonators(?). My pass side spacer for the choke is gutted so I'll just reuse it. The pass side t-pipe has a couple of holes right near the back but the driver side is in good shape and much heavier pipe. I'll get pics on the go....

update..no pics here sorry but.. I finally got around to the install. First I had to work on my honey do list. Heat pump and air handler fails, dryer belt idler...yikes, obsolete oven element engineering...ford escape heater/ac resistor...I digress. So on jack stands, rear tires off laying on my back I've got this done. The pipe work is outstanding. Beautifully done. I really like this system because there are only 3 pieces per side to deal with. The long t-pipes were a little unruly by myself but not unmanageable at all. I didn't realize that there are multiple hanger points pre drilled in the frame. The system I removed only had t-pipe hangers just aft of the rear tires but the kit came with two that go up near the top of the rear springs....1 per side so I put those in as well. This is a very precisely fit kit. I had to go back and forth making small adjustments at all the mounting points slowly tightening and adjusting as I went. It's tucked right up under so tight that I hope it isn't too hot on the floor! I burnt up an Alberta Springs box full of cassettes way back by tucking a pair of blue bottles up too tight on a 64 gmc I had lol. Two things... The front pipes could have been another 2 inches longer and I noticed that the factory type clamps at the rear of the mufflers barely give enough squeeze on the 304...tough stuff. This could become an issue. So it's in and sounds great. Not too loud or even much louder than what I took out which is what I wanted. I notice that this system has shot up in price over $500.00 !! Likely the one and only time I will do this.

Good to hear and an endorsement for them. Hopefully the supply issue for auto parts gets rectified soon.

Sounds like a nice system. I wonder if stainless band clamps would be a better solution to those iffy U clamps on the 304. I've used them and they work really nice.

Yes I am astounded by the price increase. I thought it was only lumber.. and gas....and....and lol. As far as clamps go I am a stainless band clamp liker as well.We have a small wholesale hardware business and these are good sellers! BUT.. they won't really work here at the factory dual exhaust hanger point because those things are like an all one piece kinda deal. I would have to redesign somehow...which might still happen. The kit came with regular clamps in stainless which I used at the front end of the mufflers. I really torqued on them and they seemed to squeeze ok but I was afraid of spalling or breaking them so I stopped. There were only two of those stainless ones which I figured was ok because there are only the two joints to deal with... the rest were attachment at the manifolds and two hangers per side aft. I have for sale what I took out and I'll post over in the for sale section about that.

Installed a kit from Summits own product line a few years ago on my El Camino. Fits nicely after trimming for the specific wheelbase on it.
