Hey everybody!

Hoping I could get a hand with my new to me 56. I've got the serial numbers and such, I'm pretty sure it's a pathfinder. Hoping to get the other numbers decoded. I've been reading through the forum while waiting for approval, awesome info. Looking forward to chatting with you guys. Thanks in advance.

Yea, it's in better shape than I was expecting. Bought it at auction, photos for that made it look brown, it's actually a decent looking purple to be honest.

I love that colour. And I'll admit kind of enhanced your photos a wee bit Jessie.

First let me say " welcome aboard "

I'm not finding a serial number beginning with 62219.
A 1956 Pathfinder 6 cyl serial numbers would begin with 62269600001 and then increase as production increased.

We need Taylor55 to chime in. I'll PM him for help.

Here is what i can decode. Your car's serial no.

6=1956
2219= Pathfinder 4 door sedan.
6= 261 six cylinder
19548 = the sequence number of all 1956Pontiacs built in Oshawa Ontario.

The weird part of the car is that it has Pathfinder Deluxe stainless trim on the side with the two tone paint scheme from a Pathfinder Deluxe and the Laurentian series this may have been added by someone latter in the cars life or possibly be the BSO 357 as I do not have a listing for that BSO number. There was a strike at GM in 1956 so anything could have happened on the assembly line. The Pathfinder series was supposed to have the roof only as a second colour.

W=261 six cylinder 148 hp. GM increased the compression on the 261 in 1956 by using a smaller combustion cylinder head referred to as 848 head the last three casting numbers

Paint 2301 I do not have a 1956 colour and fabric selector but the Chevrolet paint colour was referenced as Imperial Ivory/ Dusk Pearl

Trim 560 Gold Striped Beige Vinyl/Black Pattern Cloth. Beige cloth headlining with black rubber floor mats.

Body 2331 is the sequence number of all Pathfinder 4 door sedans.

The body on your car looks to be in excellent condition . If you need Tinted Factory Shade Lite glass for the side windows or want Laurentian belt line mouldings email me.

Congratulations on finding such a good car to built

Al Taylor

Thanks Al! That's awesome, got me curious on that 357 bso number now, love a mystery. I'm lucky enough to have the side glass with the car. Found it in the trunk once I got it open. Haven't gone through the pile of trim and mouldings that are in there yet, but I'll keep you in mind for the belt moldings. Thanks again buddy.
