The door panels on my 66 Beaumont are in need of a refresh... primarily the cardboard backing. I'm thinking the solution may be to soak the panels in water for an extended period to hopefully allow the removal of the vinyl in one piece. Does this make sense? Where might one find replacement backing for the vinyl?
the correct die cut door panel boards are available. REM is one manufacturer but you have to purchase thru one of their dealers. Try Antique Chevrolet in Oakville, ON or most any restoration parts dealer
Not removal. But my 65's door backing is wonky along the bottom and at the lower corners. So that was my plan to wet it, then compress it under something flat with heavy weight on top, in the hope it would come back flat.
I also have to reconnect one top metal piece to the cardboard somehow as it's come unpinned. Probably fiberglass on the inside? Then recover those top metal sections in new vinyl, and finally repaint them. Big job.
The idea of soaking the vinyl off to reapply it to a new board is interesting to me though.

Thx for the thoughts all. Im hoping a soak will work as the vinyl is in good shape and the panels are a different design from the Chevelle and GTO panels which also would fit. (And theyre Bright Blue which are not readily available )
