So the dog chewed a rubber ball and a flip flop and the cat thought it would be a good idea to eat 2 of the chunks and they got stock in his intestines. Just a little over $4000 in vet bills.
Sympathy and understanding, from this household, which has seen seven Airedales over 40 years, three of whom are still walking among us, and consuming scarce monetary resources. On the other hand, they aren't permitted in the Beaumont!!!
Poncho the cat was a stray but we call him the "$750 free cat" as that's what it cost us to bring him back to health. He's 11 years old and follows me around like a puppy when I get home from work so it's all worth it.
Yup. Rescue kitten 9 years ago. We weren't planning to get a cat, long story short, he chose us... so it happened. $175 later in fees, etc., plus buying "everything cat" that we needed for him and he was back to his new home.
Couple years later, he started lurching strangely every now and then, like his back leg wasn't doing what he wanted it to do. Displaced ligament, but luckily our vet was also a surgeon and knew what to do. First operation, $900, didn't quite pan out, but he did it again for free, and his leg has been good as gold ever since.
Few years after that, while we were away, he developed the dreaded urinary blockage but luckily his babysitter had experienced it before with her own cat and rushed him to the pet hospital. Several days and $1400 later, he was back to normal. Diet change to prevent it happening again, new food more expensive, but no problem. Few other issues now and again, each vet visit minimum $100, plus his yearly vaccinations/checkups.
Never added it all up, but there's no point because he's a member of the family. He has paid it back one hundred times over in the joy and comfort he brings us on a daily basis. My wife and I joke that he helped us keep our sanity during the pandemic, and it's true...
My buddy and his wife in Ontario have gone through $10,000.00 in the past 2 months for their dogs, but they are their "fur-babies".

Went to meet him with a figure in mind to offer. Was a horrid hoarder house, filthy actually. Terrorist hadn't been groomed in years. Was throwing money at the guy walking away with the little dog.
