1965 Beaumont Wagon progress update


It has been awhile, but continue to plug away on the 65.  Powerglide has been redone, just converter to be sent out

for rebuild. 230 ci disassembled and block machined ready for assembly.  One hole was relined because of shadow at .040

overbore. Cam bearings replaced, new pistons, stock comp cam and lifters, new oil pump etc.  valves and guides new and remains

stock.  2 floor patch panels from NPD, drivers toe board and passenger rear ready to fit. B brace also will be replaced. All brakes new,

exhaust new, rear coil springs, and complete front steering/suspension rebuild including manual steering box.  Currently assembling 

inline 6 waiting for cam retainer/washer from 12bolt.com then cam can go in.  Once mechanical complete have headliner, carpet set

and headliner windlass to go on.  Beyond point of no return, but enjoying work on a car I started riding in when 8 years old!  Hoping

to have it running and able to move on its own by the summer, but realistically not back on the road until 23. Will not repaint original turqoise

paint, lots of patina with primer showing in many places.  Will be more consistent with photos in future!DSCF2325.jpeg

What was/is your interior color?
Is yours also a custom model?
Was the roof rack original dealer installed? I acquired one from a Vista Cruiser that was
thinking to add but questioning that now. Are you still drag racing at Gimli?

Wagon,

 

Always good to see another station wagon being brought back to life.   Even better when I read the original factory installed 230 cu in 6 cylinder is also being revived for active service.

Based on the chrome trim on the rear quarter panel.  You lucked out and have the top model Beaumont Custom station wagon.   Sounds like you truly lucked out and you are restoring 

an old family friend.

Glad I stumbled onto this thread.  I look forward to the future updates.

thanks Dave,

It remains my time machine to a much simpler day.
It will be easier to work on in the coming months as house projects are completed,
and warmer temps preclude a fire in the stove.
Almost time to push out of the shop and pressure wash engine bay.
new cam and gears in, next pistons, rods, maybe this weekend?

Yes mine is a Custom, originally turquoise now bright blue interior. My roof rack is specific to the vista top, its narrower. You can use it with the proper cross bars which are longer. No I haven't raced at gimli for about 8 years, but I did 2 summers ago with the wagon in st. andrews. Are you missing any trim pieces?

That is really cool!
Mine came with no windshield washer.
I lucked out with trim, as got extras from Tin Man years ago,
and also picked up a Vista roof rack at the same time. Not sure
yet if I will instal or not, it is an iconic wagon look tho. I was looking
for some nice vintage rims like yours but because 14's are getting hard
to find for it thought maybe to upsize to 15's giving same overall height?
I still have the original rims and hubcaps but the mags give a wagon a great
look. Maybe Pontiac Rally ll rims?

Thsts good you have extra the custom trim is really hard to find. I have a few tailgate pieces, but most are pitted a little. Yes I love the roof rack look too but I would try to find the wider bars to make it more proper.
Wheels are sometimes tough to choose. I'm not sure how the rally 2s would look, steelies with smaller caps look tough sometimes. I've always wanted to try Keystone mags on my car. They're similar to my Cragars but are a little more squared off. 225/60/15 should work ok. I have 215/70/15 on the front and I had to hammer the rear part of the inner fenders cause they rubbed over bumps.

I love Cragars-had them on the 68 and they were great-what i loved best about them is not only their looks but windex and a paper towel-and they were sparkly clean! Interesting I believe I went and saw this wagon up by lac Du bonnet a long time ago.had no idea who owned it etc..and since there was no one around I didn't go up to it etc..it was parked in a yard by what looked like a summer cabin.Same car?

Good eye! Yes that was my buddies place whose family owned the land out there.
Ledin was the family. Our family had one of the first places at the Anderson sub-division
at Pinawa Bay. Lot 1, so the car travelled the old gumbo tram line road from LDB every
weekend from Beausejour where we lived. The car was purchased new from Stefaniuks
garage by my dad in spring of 65 where he ordered it from. For many years my buddy Ed
cared for the car and refused to let anyone near it for 23 years when parked at his home.
A real saint! Eventually he asked if I could come and get it as he really wanted to cut the
grass!
