Many of you may know that our 60's GM's had some special starter bolts for the starters that had a cast iron nose. I believe this nose was used exclusively on big blocks and/or small blocks with the 11" clutch (168 tooth flywheel) The original GM number is 3733289 for this bolt and it's not just a plain 3/8" X 3 3/4" bolt, it has a special knurled section where it fits into the block.
I am looking for a pair of these bolts and all I can find is some grossly overpriced OEM bolts on ebay or these Dorman bolts on Amazon.ca
The ones on Amazon.ca are fine but it's a box of 10. If have to I may buy a box but it seems like a lot of money to spend for 2 bolts! Is anyone interested in sharing a purchase of these? I would take a couple of pairs but I sure don't need 10 of them!
They have some that look like that, different head style, so may have a different part number? www.napacanada.com/en/search%20bolts&referer=v2
Ive seen some of varying sizes at Canadian Tire.

The place that rebuilt the starter for my 4 speed provided the cast iron nose. They also had to bring in the bolts, so I brought in a spare pair. They got them from Shaw GMC, don't recall what I paid for them.

GM discontinued them a few years ago, sadly. No dealers have any in stock either.

I called a couple parts stores today looking for the Dorman 678-005 bolts to no avail. However one looked on the display and found Dorman 45657 to be correct 3-5/8" long. It's readily available, should be $5-6 each.
Interesting. That looks correct. However, I went to the Dorman site, punched in starter bolt and there's a nice list of starter bolts but that number isn't in there. Then, if you scroll down past the bolts, there's alternator bolts, ignition switches etc and then more starter bolts! 45657 is in there.
Oh well, I have some ordered from NAPA anyway!

Ok, I'll bite. What the heck does that mean?!!!
I had asked for the NAPA part #, but then saw it was displayed. I was trying to delete my post from my phone, but it said I didn't have permission. So I edited it to just be one letter. Now that I'm home I could delete the post.

Interesting. The photos look identical on the Dorman site, and if you check the Rock Auto link it does show that as an alternate part number. So it seems they're identical. Might just be different p/n for different packaging? 45657 says "card", and 678-005.1 says bag.
