Looking for a frame for a 68 B-Body

Hi all,

I was considering selling my 68 2+2 this year, but only after I fixed a couple of soft spots on my frame.
Along with help from "pont427" and a seasoned body man he knows well, we got it up on a hoist and had a closer look.

We all agreed that the original frame was worse than thought and getting a better frame was the way to go.
Hence the Subject of this post.

I know that any 67/68 CP full size and it's Chevy twins (except for convertible) will work, so I wanted to ask the group if anyone has or
knows of one I can obtain. I may even travel south if I had to to get an Impala frame from the sunny/dry belt.

The car as present is fine to drive for the rest of summer, so I thought I'd do the re-frame over the winter.

Any leads guys ?

Regards, Scott (LandShark ...)

I used a 68 station wagon frame that came with the 4 piston disc brake option under my 67 Impala.
Had it acid dipped and the epoxy enameled 30 years ago.

I had the frame from the 70 Parisienne convertible advertised on kijiji in 2019. A guy down by Fort Erie was interested in putting it under his 67 or 68 Chevrolet hardtop. I think I got $300 for the frame, and he found a trucking company to pick it up at my place in Calgary and deliver it to him, I think that cost $800.

I think I know where there's a good 68 Parisienne convertible frame if that's something you'd be interested in. The frame rails on the convertible are 1" wider at the bottom, so the crossmember needs to be 2" narrower. I think I have a turbo 400 crossmember for a convertible.

Yes, a good ragtop frame would fit the HT just fine. Even a little more rigid as well.

Hi Clint,

I might be interested in that convertible frame and the crossmember. Can you find out it's details ?

Convertible frames were often offered optionally as a "heavy duty" frame on other bodystyles, often in conjunction with towing packages. The make a hardtop feel wonderfully solid!

Yes. I'm hoping the one Clint has in mind is available and in good shape.

Then the only concern will be how to get it back to Ontario. Working on some possibilities.

I HAVE FOUND A FRAME !!

Can you tell I'm excited ? Clint (seventy2plus2) came through and found me an excellent 68 convertible frame that he has graciously dragged out of a farmers field and
prepped for me for shipping to Ontario. Thanks a million Clint. He even took some minor injuries (a few stitches) to get it onto a trailer for a quick trip to Calgary.

So, my next question to the group is, does anyone know of a reliable, affordable shipping option to get it to Ontario ?

I opened a profile on USHIP and the quotes that came back were ridiculous. Clint suggested Blairco Transport, Inc. out of BC and I've sent them a message, but won't hear
from them until Monday.

Just throwing it out there, if anyone else can recommend a shipping option for me.

Regards, Scott (LandShark ...)

I thought I'd toss these in.  First photo shows us (my friend Ken) in the middle of a field, with the frame loaded into a u-haul trailer - note the height of the tall grass.  The frame still has the front steering, suspension & brakes on it (less the steering box & brake drums).   Once home I removed the stuff that was just adding to the shipping weight, so it's ready to go.

I haven't updated in quite a while, but I am seeing some progress now.

I received the frame from Alberta last fall and did some small repairs and then painted it with POR15. Great stuff.
The body shop just started the process of separating the body from the frame and will shortly start moving everything over the the new frame.

While taking off the front inner and outer fenders, it was determined that new inners were required.

I'm going to assume, but wanted some confirmation, that the inner fenders will be the same as a 68 Impala ?  Any opinions ?

Anyway, here are a few pictures. Many more to come.

3404120 and 3404119 right and left inner fender part numbers appear to be unique to 68 Canadian Pontiac B body according to the GM parts book.

But with that said, we know something as trivial as a little tab that can be added or removed will make it a different part number so with that said it's not impossible that Chevy inners can be made to work.

Any photos showing the bad areas of the frame? I suspect behind the passenger front tire will be bad.

No pictures yet, but I'll be really curious when I can turn it over and see the underside.

Anyone have any opinions of the inner fenders question ? I was really hoping someone already faced this issue and had some advice.
