Nice M20 taken out of a 70 Nova SS in the mid eighties-been sitting since-was checked over-ready to install still has metal tag Build date as seen in pictures June 17,1970-I got this off a friend about 10 yrs ago-

Side cover is stamped 3952648 correct for 70-I know 68 had the stud type shift shafts while 69 and 70 had the bolt on-they had course spline in 70 as well-thanks for your input Barry.

That seemed to be a great deal!

@ The guy who said that wasn't a 1970 based on the coarse spline input;
1970 was a transitional year for GM;
For 1971 & later all passneger cars with four speeds used a fine spline input, and large (think TH400) output;
As I have understood it all GM four speeds manufactured up to and including 1970 - with one exception - used the coarse input with the smaller (TH350) output;
That singular exception is the 1970-LS6, those cars all used the fine spline input, and large output.

After 1970 the coarse spline intput (and small output) was reserved for three speed manual transmissions, and saginaws.
