The ad says it's a '63. At Chrysler Corp. the major drivetrain difference between '63 & '64 was the 4-speed supplier switch from the 1963 B-W T10 (everybody used one at some point) to the new for '64 Chrysler-built A-833. The 413 wedge of '63 grew into 426 of '64 as well. That may have held for Plymouths & Dodges, but Chryslers weren't generally offering 4-speeds (except for some cool 300-letter series cars). Looking at the '63 brochure it says the Newport uses a new HD 3-speed manual floor shift... I never knew that they offered a HD 3-speed floor shift!

When I was young I was hanging around with guys 10 to 15 years older than I was. They raced stock cars and for ten or eleven year olds that were crazy about cars it was a great time. One of the guys rented a room and his landlord owned a 1966 Dodge Coronet 4 door with a 383 and a four speed. Apparently he bought it new off the lot of the local Dodge dealer. He wasnt looking for a race car, just a family car with a manual transmission. I still remember looking at the poverty hub caps and seeing disc brakes instead of the normal Dodge Division. The car eventually rusted away but I wonder now why it would have been on the dealer lot to start with. Surely it wouldnt have been ordered with the four speed for dealer inventory. I included a picture from the Internet of what I remember the car looking like.
One of the members of my car club has a 61 Newport 3 speed on the floor. Column shift was not offered because of the instrument cluster design. Car was US built, one of approximately 3500 built. 361 engine, 2 barrel carb, manual brakes and manual steering. Power options not available: car cruises easily at 70 miles per hour. Its like sitting on your living room couch and doing 70mph.
