I went to look at a 67 Chevelle with a friend on the weekend. It's a SS tribute at the right price. We knew it was originally a Malibu with a 6 cyl and powerglide, so the way the data tag decoded made sense.
However, I was concerned about the rivets holding this data tag onto the firewall. Does this look like it's been off and put back on ?
Believe the data tags were installed before the firewall was painted. It was then covered, and not too exactingly, by a piece of masking tape when the firewall was painted. So many original tags have paint on the ends or corners. Such is the case with my all original 65 CS
You'll also note only 2 rivets and a body putty covering them before painting.
They used hollow rivets to attach the trim tag, then they stuff dum dum (body calking) into the hollow. Norontcan is sure correct when he said they painted them "imprecisely". Take a look below at my untouched tag as it came from Oshawa. Downright messy!

I knew that tag didn't look right. I'm not concerned about it. It does appear to be correct. All the codes match the car (original color, interior, tranny etc.). I'm guessing someone took it off when the color was changed to that silver.
Anyway, gonna get a sellers pkg on the car and contact some of the previous owners to confirm.
The seller is minimizing his collection. He lives here in London and I got to see some of his other stuff. I promised him no names or locations. Here is a tease of some of his stuff.
