Repro body panel junk

Yesterday our kids were here with their 2009 GMC crew cab. I jokingly asked our son in law if my job welding in new rocker panels from Dec 2020 was good or if they were falling off. To my surprise when I actually looked under the truck, the driver's rocker panel has already rusted right through AGAIN. Wow, 201/2 years, pretty impressive China, thanks a lot for making such garbage...

Yup welcome to china junk. I spray (soak) zinc weld through primer on the backside hoping it will last a few more years. Scuff the factory primer then spay the zinc...seems to hold up a lot better and has to get through the zinc first.......

Next time stick some Por 15 on the panel.

Get a little on your hands just to see how long it will last.....

Krown or Rust Check inside and outside works fine, just dont miss a spot. Remove taillights and spray inside whole fender area of box. These companies drill holes to get inside rockers etc.
My 2002 Tacoma was done this way annually, the paint on the inside and outside of the rockers was like new, same for bottom of cab, box, and frame. Most of these trucks had new frames from Toyota, mine was original.

Picture from 2011 when I bought it and from this month the day before it sold. It was always stored outside and driven in winter.
