Properly ID'ing a new to me 51 Pontiac.

I just picked up a 51 Pontiac, literally out of a barn. It's a 2 door sedan, with the 239 and three speed. I have no idea which model it is though...

It's a 2211

Body 1303

VIN is 2221107516

What were the model names and trim levels in '51?

2211 is a Fleetleader Special 2 door sedan. The Fleetleader Special was the lowest priced Pontiac in 1951.

However your VIN shows it being a '52 since it starts with 22211 (51's start with 12211)

It'd still be a Fleetleader Special 2 door sedan in '52 and cost $2150 and weighed 3176lbs

The model names for '52 were :

Fleetleader Special

Fleetleader DeLuxe

Chieftain Six

Chieftain DeLuxe Six

Chieftain Eight

Chieftain DeLuxe Eight

Neat find! Is it solid?

Not sure what to say about year, the guy I got it from said it was a '51, but I trust the VIN and you guys more...so I guess it's a '52 then.

It's fairly solid, but isn't perfect by any stretch. The guy bought it in '84 as a young man with dreams to restore it, or have it restored. Never happened, and while talking to him I got the feel he really wasn't much of a car guy. The car is complete, which was most important to me. Trans is out and according to the seller had been rebuilt, or needed rebuilt. I'm leaning towards needing rebuilt.

Floors are mostly there, although will need some repair. The 239 is currently stuck, but is soaking right now. Being a Fleetleader special aligns with what I see...no options, minimum trim. Your classic prairies Pontiac...

Anyways, he was asking $1200, then couldn't get the hood open...so I gave him $1000 for it.

Does this grill look like 51 or 52?

Good score for sure! I'm not well versed enough to know the differences between a 51 and 52 grille however.

car2.JPGHere's mine - 51 FleetLeader Deluxe. I noticed the hood emblem and the center area below the Pontiac script in the center are different so I'm leaning to a 52 as well.

My turn signals are not correct - previous owner(s) swapped them out during a restoration with truck marker light.  I have all the parts to replace to original, just haven't got around to doing it.  TM
