Need to replace my July 2004 battery in the 63

Its had its 19th birthday, drinking age now, but I noticed the 63 wasnt starting as easy as usual last fall. My battery in the 98 Silverado just failed and the new battery worked so go in comparison to the old one, I think its time to replace the teenager, a Costco battery size 34.

What group size are you all using in the old 60s cars? This one fit very well except it was about 3/4 inches short for the factory battery hold down brackets, I had to add a spacer under it. The spacer is not visible so I could go with the same group 34.

Ill stay with Costco, they have always supplied excellent batteries unlike other brands that Ive seen fail in 6 months sometimes. 4 year replacement and 100 months prorated warranty.

Our originals were a group 24, although maybe in those days it was not that number but a 24 (not 24F which has the poles reversed) is identical in size to the OEM unit.

The poles on mine are toward the grill with positive left, the group 24 size is 10.25''L x 6.8125''W x 8.875''H Inches.
The group 34 is 10.25'' x 6.8125'' x 7.875'' Inches so 1 inch taller.

But the 24F appears to be all Costco sells, compared to the 34 it has less CCA 700/795, less CA 875/995, more reserve capacity 130/105, but also weighs 2kg more.

Should I be looking for the most CCA and maybe most weight (assumes more lead=longer lasting)? Look for the largest battery that fits in the stock location?

My 2013 Honda crv has a 51R battery, they started failing when they were less than a year old, due to being undersized. Starting in 2013,, the Honda guys started stuffing a group 24 in them, solved the problem of battery failures. I wonder whats specd for a battery in the new vehicles with all the electronics plus that automatic start stop feature?

You could always just install the 24F flipped around? The posts would be a couple of inches back from their current location but that really wouldn't make a lot of difference?

I typically buy the middle to top of the line Delco batteries. 2 reasons for that. 1) I have had such good luck with Delco batteries when I sold them for decades at the dealership. 2) I like the look of a GM battery underhood. Even though the decals/labels on it are nothing like the 60's battery, somehow it still feels like at least an attempt to keep it looking original.

I'm sure a parts store around you somewhere that will have a Group 24 battery for you. Try Canadian Tire.
