Straight looking car and very rare, should sell quick? Unless some major surprise somewhere along the way.

It looks like a '64 Acadian Canso with a '63 hood emblem & grille. In the ad it says FACTORY V8, that has got to be very rare. That year only, the V8 was an option on 6-cylinder Chevy IIs & Acadians, which were drastically down on sales after losing the hardtop coupe & convertible for '64.

I'd sure like to see the cowl tag on this one.

The Chevy 11 for 1964 was a. first year for a V8 Only a  283-2 Barrel Carb so I would think that the 283 was also available for Acadians. The fender flag is a Chevrolet emblem, not correct emblem for an Acadian.

1964 was the year that Chevy IIs & Acadians were posts only. O.K, the Chevy II Nova hardtop & Nova SS in the U.S. came back mid-64 but not until '65 in Canada. The 283 was offered for everything in the line.

I bought this car 4 or 5 months ago.
I haven't owned a Nova or Acadian, other than a very rusty '62 chevy 2, ragtop that I had as my first car a long time ago.
I'm a lifetime Trifive guy so bear with me if I ask some dumb questions on this Acadian.

The cowl tag says Style #9411, my reseach says this is a '64 2 door sedan and with a 6 cylinder.

(I now realize the car has some '63 stuff on it, grille, hood etc.)

Was the  '64 2 door sedan offered with a V8?

Were bucket seats avilable in this car with a 6 cylinder and automatic, or at all?

The car does not have a clutch pedal.

If originally an auto and on the column, where was the gear selection indicator?

There is no indicator on the column or on the dash.

I have plans to build this car and starting to aquire parts.
I have a crate LS376/480 and just ordered CBR front subframe, 4 link etc, etc.

I'm trying to figure out details on the trans and tunnel.
I'm putting a benchseat in the car.

Silver Sport has included in their quote "Case maching" on the THX.

Am I correct that I'm ok without this?

Hey Bob, congrats on the rare score.

Yes, a V8 was offered on any '64 Acadian. The only version was the 283 2-barrel. Oddly it was a Regular Production Option (L37) on any six-cylinder 1964 Acadian. Eight-cylinder model numbers for Acadians & Chevy IIs didn't start until 1965 models.

Bucket seats were not offered on the '64 Acadian or '64 Canadian Chevy II. GM dropped the hardtop coupe & convertible body styles from the Acadian & Chevy II for '64, along with the Nova SS & SD with their buckets. Mid-year '64 in the U.S. only, the Nova SS & the hardtop coupe bodystyle returned the Chevy II line for the remainder of '64. It didn't come back until the 1965s in Canada.

With a Powerglide, for your car there would be a little cresent-shaped shift indicator on the top of the steering column.

It sounds like you are going to make this Acadian into something potent!

Thanks for the info Cam.

It looks like soneone has removed the shift arm from the column,  filled the hole on the collar and removed the shift indicator.

I guess their intention was to go with the buckets and console.

Really doesn't matter to me but I am curious if it was originally a 6 or a V8.

Earlier in this thread someone said the fuel line looked like it was in the 6 cylinder location.

What's the difference between the two fuel line locations?

Any other tell tale signs, like exhaust hangers etc?

Thx

On the 6 cylinder the fuel line runs along the passenger frame rail all the way to the front even in the engine compartment.

On the 8 cylinder it runs along the frame rail but when it gets to the firewall area of the rail it stays to the outside of the rail, in behind the tire etc and then curls 90 degrees into the engine compartment a bit down below the battery tray.

This is how the V8 line looks in behind the passenger front tire.
