EV News

Some interesting developments, wonder what things will look like in say 5 or 10 years. Most gas vehicles today make it 5-600 kms on a tank. Even with cold weather losses, electric capable of 1200kms would exceed that range.

I think these new batteries could put out way more power per lb than existing EV batteries so making a lighter EV helps a lot. building a 3000 lb vehicle instead of some of these new pickups going 10,000 lbs, the new 1000hp Hummer, would be a good idea. At 3000 lb, maybe wed see some under $30,000 simple vehicles.

Toyota
Recharge time to 80% stated as 10 minutes.
Vikram Gulati, head of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, confirmed the plans at an investment summit in India. We will be rolling out our electric vehicles with solid-state batteries in a couple of years from now.

It will power a vehicle which will be charging in 10 minutes, giving a range of 1,200 km (750 miles), Gulati said. According to Toyotas India boss, the battery will also have a very good life expectancy.

Norway

They will end sale of gas and diesel automobiles in 2025.

Norway is already well on its way to reaching that goal, with electric vehicles accounting for 82 per cent of all vehicles sold in 2023.

While the percentage of EVS is relatively high the actual numbers are not. British Columbias population is about the same as Norway but the area is double the size. Im encouraged by the potential for better battery performance but I remain sceptical of our ability to expand our power grid to accommodate all the recharging requirement.

Hopefully things improve. I'm storing a Tesla in my garage for a friend. They got fed up with winter driving it. Not enough range to get to work (78 km each way) during the winter. "Frunk" freezing and won't open and getting an annoying warning that it is open while driving.

It's in my single car garage well away from anything. It has to be plugged in as the car needs to keep the batteries topped up as it activates battery warmers from time to time. If the batteries go dead it's quite an ordeal apparently to get the car charging.

They are very expensive too, do they last during a power outage I wonder? How big a generator do you need?

I don't think a generator is a good idea unless it's clean AC and the output is so small from a generator it'd take many, many hours to charge (and lots of generator fuel!).
